My wife and I are always packing a healthy dose of situational awareness backed up with common sense. Lots of people would benefit from knowing what is going on around them.

Simple truth is that during the last 5 years of camping, including Wally Worlds I have not had any problems.
What a few people have said is really true and that is to stay situationally aware. If the little voice in the back of your head starts speaking to you, it is probably a good idea to go find some other place.
A phideaux is a really great too since I am not aware of any alarm system with teeth. Not only that crooks do not like to take chances with yappers anyway.
If you are camping where there are other people that is probably the best places to stay. Isolated areas, by yourself along the southern border is something you might want to do with caution or with an experienced group.
If you do not like or want firearms, certainly a bat or really good wasp spray is a reasonable alternative. Pepper gas, and some of the two-shot OC guns (non-lethal pistol with a powder charge that fires pepper gas at high velocity) are effective within their limitations.
Firearms open a pelthora of issues that are not for everybody. You can read a lot about these issues on the Internet or you can go to the better sporting goods store where the sales people will help with your decision. You will know its a good store when they are willing to discuss this instead of just selling you a gun.
If you do decide to go the firearm route, may I recommend that you take a CCW (conceal carry) class whether you decide to conceal carry or not. Virtually all the classes teach basic firearms safety, operation, legal aspects, and the excellent advice not to shoot if at all possible.
One thing no one mentioned here, is no matter whether you use pepper spray or a firearm you are still going to have to deal with legal repercussions afterwards, no matter how righteous you were in your actions. HENCE, THE GOOD ADVICE TO AVOID THE FIGHT IN ADVANCE!
If someone has specific questions, feel free to PM me.

I'm not telling! The best defense is a surprise. If an attacker knows you have "X" you better believe he will come back with "X+1" if he wants what you rightfully own.

Very true to avoid confrontation at all costs. Thank goodness for Castle Doctrine laws that protect the victim from retaliation after having to defend themselves. Of course, not all states offer you this protection.

Being a small woman makes me a target wherever I go alone on the road, in the eyes of a predator. I have taken self defense courses and firearm classes offered by thru a local police program. I live in a country close neighborhood with various law enforcement officers and agents My spouse and SWAT cop neighbor encouraged me to get my CCC to be legal when on the road, which I did.
This forum has been helpful in offering other options that I have added (wasp spray) abd still considering stun gun but still carry my .357 snubby Rueger (with hollow points so they wouldnt pierce beyond my walls) every trip I use the trailer alone.
Boondocking is great to be at one with nature, but as others say - be aware of your surroundings and trust your gut instinct.

Little ones the alarm, big ones the enforcer. Now if an intruder brings biscuits or a tennis ball all bets are off.

LOL -Mine spit the bribes out. One will politely take it and then drop it on the ground. The other just looks through you and turns her head to avoid contact with the treat. They have been taught "stranger danger" with regards to treats or toys. I can pick up the treat & give it to them & they will scarf it down, but not from a stranger unless I am presnt & give the "ok" command. People already in their selected "circle" can feed them all day. haha

Been tent camping long before we bought our 1st camper and now we are on our 3rd. Oddly enough have never had an incident or worry while camping. Never felt threatened, worried etc camping is about relaxing.

Like others had said, just be aware of your surroundings. We have been boating and camping for 14 years, and the only bad experience was las year in a county campground, a drunk camper was banging my camping buddy TT doors around 2:30am and trying to get inside, their kids (3) were very scared. The police arrived like 15 minutes later and the next morning he was kicked out of the campground.
Just keep the doors locked at nigth!!!

I don't know what it's like in most states but in Ny States guns are not allowed. Been camping for over 15 years and never had any need or reason for any form of self defense, most campers are there to have a peaceful time not to cause trouble. I don't believe in bringing guns where little kids are is a good idea.

Most people in Texas that hold a CHL are very responsible. They teach there family members about gun safety .
