Selling a RV

Well we decided a little while back that we were going to trade our TT in for a bigger trailer, I spoke to a few dealers about trading mine in and all they wanted to do is give us wholesale and below for the trade so long story short we decided to try and sell it ourselves and has been a big pain in the ***.

We first decided to take it to a consignment lot south of Ft. Worth, when we got into the details of the contract it was very one sided so I dropped that idea. So we towed the trailer all the way back home and put it up and so much for a few days’ work getting it ready.

I then listed it on RVTrader and all the Craig’s Lists within a few hundred miles of DFW and so far I got a text right after listing it on RVTrader from someone who wanted to buy it for full asking price but was to busy to call and he would have his agent get with me and pick it up. I sent him a text back telling him how funny I thought he was. Then another with a link I was supposed to click on, yeah right.

Since then I have been getting calls daily from marketing companies who want me to pay them to list my RV with them because they have thousands of buyers lined up right now who want a trailer just like mine.

I just got an email from some guy off of Craig’s List who wants to see if I would let him take over payments. Do I have MORON tattooed on my forehead? That was rhetorical!

So for you folks who have been successful at private selling an RV, tell me how you did it?

We have several local "yard sale / sale by owner" type pages on Facebook specific to our area (our county, even specific towns). May want to search for something like that on FB in your area. We sold our popup for full asking price in cash in one day. Couldn't believe it. I listed it at 8 am and it was sold by 6 pm. It was on Craigslist a few weeks and we had responses, several seemed legit, and others like ones you're describing. I think because the FB page is local, it seemed to work better. May have just been luck of the draw too, IDK, since it was early June and the season was just getting into full swing. Definitely worth a try though. Good luck with your sale.

There's no profit to be made on any manufactured product and there are scammers just waiting to swoop in on you. Unfortunately, you may have to suck it up and deal with trading it in

The few times I have used Craigs List, I created a new email address and used it. I never gave out my phone number or real email until I was sure the person was legit. Besides the people who are too busy to look at it I had lots of offers from women who thought I was hansom and couldn't wait to meet me. Telling me I was hansom was a sure give away they were not serious. Best chance is use a forum like this.

I've bought and sold 2 RVS on Craigslist and had no trouble at all.

When selling I generally list at the bottom that if you can't provide a local phone number I can reach you at, I won't respond. And I don't. Yes I get spam and scam attempts, but I just ignore them. scammers are nothing to be afraid of if you just ignore them.

I also say cash only, first with cash in my hands gets it. No I won't hold it.

Both times I've sold RVS On CL I sold them within a month (and my second one sold THE DAY I posted it).

Price it competitively and you shouldn't have so much trouble selling it on CL.

A few things that helped me sell a couple on CL: put lots of images. Tons of pics says I have nothing to hide and this is a great camper. Use some keywords at the bottom to steer people to your ad such as specific brand names or words like bunkhouse or rear living, etc. And just ignore the scammers. Remember you'll likely come out several thousand ahead by dealing with a few idiots, so it's worth it.

FRF Classifieds

We bought our 2015 Windjammer from a couple in eastern MA who listed it in the FRF Classifieds. They listed all the options, upgrades along with detail pics and price. They keep a complete file on every item relating to the Windjammer from mods to FR warranty work which went with the TT. When we visited them they provided a bumper-to-bumper overview of the TT in minute detail. When we picked up the TT they show us how to hookup and balance the Reese Stright-Line Hitch, help with fine tuning the break controller and even made sure we did a shakedown curse with our TV around town, through parking lots and even on I 495. It was a good experience/deal for both parties.

Good luck with selling your TT

Happy Trails

Now that's a good rule, to which I can relate, more and more as the years pass: "Telling me I was handsome was a sure give away they were not serious." Words to live by!

We sold our 4 year old TT On Craig's list. All I can say is patience.. A lot of folks looked at it but no sale. Took 9 months. Finally a couple liked it and wanted to write a check. I suggested that we let my bank take care of the transaction. No problems and the small bank fee was worth the peace of mind.
Just be patient, it will sell.

I had a guy pay me $13,500 for a camper. I never touched the money. Just took him to my bank, let him hand it to the teller for her to count and deposit. Also used the bank's free notary services for the paperwork. Made things easy.

Craigs List worked for use as well, price it to sell & take really good pictures. Helps to treat the buyer with the information you would want if you were buying it.

To clarify my previous post, I required cash or certified check, and he brought a wad of cash.
