for a short queen, I use "queen" flat sheet and a "full" fitted sheet. this works like it was made for the short queen mattress.

That cold be the reason ~~ after 1 short queen my wife said never again. A full queen or full king. Full queen and my feet are on the bed with the rest of me. I thought she was thinking of my comfort and now see probably it was hers...
