Since when......

......does fuel become the most expensive part of the camping trip? We're heading out for the weekend to a place about 80 miles from home. Just put a whole bill into the fuel tank that was already 1/4 full......Something has got to give. If it doesn't, as much as I don't want we may have to get a seasonal site. Make the madness stop!!!!

I feel your pain - I run super unleaded and have the 36 gallon tank - makes me quiver every time I fill up my Dodge

I figure I am gonna blow atleast half to three quaters of a tank this weekend on my trip.

I have been trying to do the state parks because they are cheaper and just as nice to camp at compared to the privately owned ones

thats funny atleast you can send yours home - I cant send my 4 year old home unless I want DCF knocking on my door wondering what I was thinking

I may be coming your way in July unless something changes - am suppose to be going to Manasses VA and then to Carlisle PA and then back to Manasses to pick my daughter back up provided the price of fuel doesnt keep going up between now and then - if it goes up and stays there I may have to cancle the trip and camp closer since I am coming from Florida

As bad as your gas prices are, it's worse in Ontario. In our area regular is $1.28 per liter or $4.84 per US gallon. Looks like more NY and PA camping for us...the sites are also a lot less expensive.

Sherdep - Are you staying overnight somewhere in Manassas? We live in Manassas and I've got 4-year old twins and a 5 year old. Let me know if you want to meet up or need recommendations for anything in the area.

Been doing that for a couple years. Cost me 127.00 yesterday for 3/4's of a tank. We always plan on fuel being the most expensive part of vacation. Spent 2k on fuel last summer for our 6000km 14 day trip to Ontario and abt 1500 on everything else including meals, and campsites.

I bet I could bolt the hitch right onto the deck lid, I'm sure she won't mind.

I know what you mean. Couldn't believe it cost us $150 round trip to go 3 hrs away from the house. That is with filling up in PA where gas is cheaper than wonderful NY. I keep saying gas prices aren't going to change my camping but now I'm not sure.

How about a simple hitch on the roof.......if it can be done with a Volkswagen Bug, I don't see why it couldn't be done with a Camaro ??

I've seen the VW video before, it's truly a classic, better yet, it seems to handle the load rather well..... LMAO

Fuel costs will cut into my budget, but it won't stop me, I will just have to plan ahead and the distance travelled will probably change. However this summer we have our plans in place and I will just buck it up for our 2000 mile trip, over 50% of my budget is fuel

Our next three planned trips are all within 70 miles from home. At 10 miles a gallon / a tank will get us there and back !!

All nice S/P's with lots to do.......biking / swimming / hiking / canoeing / snorkeling / beer drinking / wine drinking / etc...etc...
