Slide, In or Out ?

New owner of FR Vibe with a single slide out.
Its parked here at the house and I have been keeping the slide In.
But friends want to see it, my wife wants to work on getting it ready for spring.
So I find myself opening and closing the slide often.
What are the rules for this, should I just leave the slide out all the time and save wear and tear on the motors and such. Or does keeping all closed for the weather more helpful.
Being a newbie sucks !

My 5cents says it depends on the weather. If it is dry and warm (above freezing) I would not worry about leaving it out. I do. If it is raining, windy, snowing, etc. I bring them in.

Love my Wildcat 295RSX!

Do you get snow in your area?

I leave them in till early spring then put them out on the nicer days.

All 3 of mine are out anytime it's in driveway. I use it, store stuff, move stuff around, grandkids sleep there. Etc etc. Slides are in to travel.

From what I was told by a FR rep at Goshen, the only difference between slides out or in is that when they are out, sunlight can hit the seals and will shorten their lives a little, other than that, it makes no difference.

I don't close my slides unless it's being towed, inclement weather or covered for the winter.

My opinion is to leave the slides in as much as possible. When the slide is out you only have the inner seal stopping weather from entering your rig. Closed now there is the rubber seal on the slide and the inner seal. Don't forget to treat your slide seals yearly with either a product for slide seals, Camping World, online or your dealer. I use 303 Protectant on my three slides seals.

In unless going in and out loading or cleaning. If I were to leave slide out I would make sure unit is level.

In for towing of course

Out at home while prepping for season or cleaning for winter

Do you bring them in when the bad weather hits while you are camping as well?

My TT is in a pole barn on a concrete floor. The TT is level and the slide is out most of the time. No UV, snow or other bad weather to worry about - except a tornado.

I've been known to take a nap in there when the house is overrun with grandkids.

I leave ours in when not in use. In Manitoba we get a lot of snow, but all of the trailers at the dealerships have their slides out.

I leave my slides out all the time except in a real bad storm and then I pull the slides in and hook the truck up to the fifth wheel. When I'm camping I normally keep the slides out but if a really bad storm was to come up I would pull the slides in, I don't have much room in camper with the slides in

Left them out all summer long at the seasonal site with the old trailer and plan to do the same with the new trailer. As stated above, the dealers leave them out all year long, never remove snow from the roof and all is well. The only advice I can recommend is to have the slide side slightly off level so the water runs away from the trailer.
The trailers are built to live in so
