Slides out?

Taking a poll, do you leave slides out or in if not using camper for a week or two. A fellow at work left his slide out, his camper was not leveled and rain water just let itself right in. In a bad way, considerable damage occurred. He does not have toppers he thinks that would not had happened he had gotten the toppers. Crazy right? Toppers are no substitute for seals. Just curious who leaves slides out.

We have toppers and leave the slides out 24/7 unless traveling.

I leave the slides out at home but only because I'm nearby to address any problems immediately - like horizontal rain finding its way in... At home we're plugged into 110 so the MaxxAir fans can circulate air & our fridges can stay cold - no need to unpack condiments, etc. Leaving the slides open allows us to wash clothes & re-pack when its convenient.

However, if I were leaving it for a couple weeks at a permanent site, I would store it with the slides in. IMO its much cheaper to fix a burned-out slide motor vs. repairing water damage.

We are on a level concrete pad on the side of our house with 50 AMP service. We usually leave our slides out (we have toppers) and even leave the A/C on in the summer because I enjoy puttering about and Mod'ing things in the camper

DW & I will even fire up the TV and sit out in the camper and watch TV or surf the web - we own it so we might as well use it!

I was told that in or out makes no difference. However, out all the time will let UV rays deteriorate the rubber in the 'inside' seals faster. I am out only when I am actually using it, but there are plenty of guys at the lake that leave them out full time

I leave mine out.
Been through 2 heavy rain/hail storms.
No problems.

P.S. It was level.

We've been permanent for 5 years now and have always left the slides out from April to October. Never had any problems. 99% of the other permanents in our CG do the same.

Well, both in and out. Returning from a trip, the TT gets plugged in and water hooked up. Slide then goes out and over the next few days or week, I'll dub around (Maine term) the camper cleaning, rearranging and basically thinking 'Jeez, wish I was camping'. After a while, slide comes in and it's ready to go for the next trip. That said, can't see any harm in leaving it out.

When my parents owned a park model it sat at a cg for 26 years and never had it's slides in. When they quit camping, the new owner had to manually bring the slide in, motors had seized. My htt has the slides out most of summer. Always something to do even if we haven't used it since mid April.

No debate just a poll. A buddy tried to tell me not to leave them out. I thought of I can't leave them out what's the point of having slides. I was curious if everyone thought the same, and most people do.

We are pretty new to rving but were told several times, to not put the slides out unless the unit was level. Wonder if that would have made a difference for your friend.

When we are at home the slides are out and plugged into house power . Never had a problem .

About the only time ours are in is when we are on the road. At home I built a level parking spot for the truck and trailer with 50a service and a dump station. We back it in,and do what we have to do to it before the next run,but when its home slides are out and she is connected to everything.Slide is in for the pic only because we are dumping/flushing.
