Slidout toppers

My question is I want to install your slide out cover on a 2012 Rockwood 8312ss on two slideouts. The instruction say to place the mounting brackect 5 to 6 inches down from the top rail. My slideout has a rubber frame on the outside that is right in the way. If I drop the bracket down under the frame so it can sit flush on the wall it is 7 to 8 inches down from the rail. Will this work? The rail is already attached from the factory so I am not using the rail that came with cover. Thanks for your help.

Maybe this will answer your question. I used stainless screws in lew of the ones that came with the toppers.
