Spare tires on RV's

We bought a new Rockwood in 2013. We inspected everything to make sure everything was as ordered. We made sure there was a spare tire, but did not take the cover off to inspect it. Now 15 months have past. We pulled into a RV park and my husband noticed that one of the back trailer tires was about to blow. He took the spare off the back of the Rv and was going to mount it in the place of the bad tire. All the wheels on the Rv have 5 lugs. The spare had 6!!! Praise the Lord we did not have a flat while on the road in the middle of nowhere. We were fortunate to find a tire shop close by and were able to get the tire replaced and get a new wheel for the spare that could actually be useful! Lesson learned - inspect the spare tire!

You gotta be kidding. Was there air in it at least? The wife called me one day, said her tire was flat. I drove to rescue her and put the spare on only to find out the flat tire had more air in it than the spare !

Before our last trip I checked tire pressures all at 50#. Took the cover off the spare, it had 20#, second time. Took it to direct tire and they replaced the valve stem, been OK since

The spare did have plenty of air, but a lot of good it would have done us! I need to send a note to Forest River with the information about the tire. We were able to swap the new 6 lug wheel for a new 5 lug wheel for the spare when we got the new tires (my husband elected to replace all of them since we have 2 long trips coming up.
