Looking4us do you want my contact? Deb Rimsa was amazing to work with. And SHE is the warranty person for Rockwood.

Well I finished with the painting of the hallway, reinstalling the refrigerator so I thought I'd attack the weak spot in the floor.

First I removed the toilet thinking it might be leaking but it wasn't. Then I thought I could force a rigid tube in between the luan and styrofoam to inject the expansion foam but there wasn't enough leverage to control it's direction. So I just cut a small hole in the vinyl to see if it was poor workmanship or rotted wood. It was rotted wood and to make matters worse, black mold.

At this time I decided I needed to get on with the big fix so I cut away the hallway vinyl. I appears that the damage is centered around black water tank vent for about 3 feet. Looks like maybe at one time water was coming from the roof on the outside of the pipe and was able to get under the vinyl. When I had purchased the camper the vent caps were in bad shape.

Good news is the damage was dry so I will remediate the mold, remove the rotted luan, replace it and all the vinyl in the camper. This will however cause me to remove the carpet in the bedroom and replace it as well.

I will keep you appraised.

Kitchen and bathroom......look for leaks. Water damage will cause that.

We have had a lot of rain lately including a hurricane and it is completely dry so I believe the damage was caused by an earlier leak probably around the vent pipe. You can almost see the concentric rings evenly going away from the pipe caused by each leak soaking further and further.

Since the damage is around the inside wall where the vent pipe is and away from all the toilet and sink connections I do not think those are the sources of the original leak.

Thank you for your input.

In the middle of remediation. The mold spread isn't as bad as initially thought. It extends about 18" around the vent pipe.

I did notice that the bleach foamed when applied so that means there is urine in the luan. I don't get it at the toilet hole so I think it must be coming from a crack or bad fitting on the vent pipe connection to the black tank.

QUESTION: Before I rip the wall out, does anyone know if the vent pipe is screwed or glued to the black tank?

They informed me that it was screwed in but that didn't mean there might be a crack.

Instead of cutting away a large 4 foot chunk of luan, from stud to stud, I would like to use laminate flooring. I could do a small patch and laminate right over. It would also add strength to the weak spot in the floor.

Questions: Has anyone used laminate flooring in their TT? Did you experience any problems later on down the road with it shifting or moving? Did you glue some or all of it down?

I would like to use laminate flooring as it would also add strength to the weak spot in the floor.

No sorry I can't help on that question. I am still calling the forest river on this problem. I don't think I should have to repair the floor if there is this many people with the same problem

Lookng4us - exactly! It is a KNOWN issue. And they do at least 4 of them a week. Keep calling! Thank goodness they have a new floor system now.

Mine is a 2007, I'm the second owner so I don't think they'll warranty it.

That's what they are telling me on mine they say it's out of warranty. But I see other people getting theirs fix. I've contacted me twice two different people and they tell me the same thing but I'm not done fighting yet. I will let you know I get anything done

We have a 2012 Rockwood 8319SS. After three years we had cracks in both sides and a spongy floor. After some negotiating, FR replaced the sides and the floor at no cost.
Now after two years the spongy floor is back. I'm thinking it's a design flaw.
Has anyone else had this problem?

We had our 2012 repaired just before Labor Day. It IS a known design flaw. That's why they're no longer using this floor system, at least in Rockwood models. New floors are now 5/8" tongue and groove. No more 1/4" luan plywood sandwiched around foam. Unfortunately, they can't retrofit the new floor system to older models. I asked during our factory tour. I think we'll start thinking about a new model before our floor starts to get spongy again.
