Stablizers

My husband and I bought a Forest River Travel Trailer on Saturday. Took it to our campsite that evening and a day later while sitting in the trailer heard a loud popping sound. After inspecting the outside found that one of the stabilizers was extremely bent. Called the dealer who stated that it must be "soft steel" and he would get back to us. We still have not heard from them. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem?

Only when trying to level the trailer with them instead of just stabilizing it. They are not made to lift a trailer.

Ouch!
I have seen many people who are using their stabilizers as a means to "level" their trailers. This is a big NO NO! They are stabilizers only! They are meant to control your wobble as you walk inside your trailer. I understand that they should never be extended more than 50%. I've never heard of "soft steel," other than in China. I suspect they will be accusing you of leveling your trailer with the stabilizers and will not hold up any warranty. Good Luck with that! Yikes!

The stabs are just for stability and not for holding significant weight. Either you overloaded them by accident or they were defective. Hopefully the latter, but I would think that the dealer will have to inspect and make a judgement.

What year and model is your camper.?

Good luck with the warranty request. If you did not actually level with them and they failed, stick to your guns and insist on replacement.

I think I have the same rear jacks, and the motor can put a lot of force on the brackets in my opinion. I can see how your issue can happen without "lifting" the trailer very much.
