Storage in the pass thru

Has anyone made like a tray of some sort that uses the aluminum frame structure in the pass thru. Trying to get some ideas. When we get our 2017 Salem hemisphere 29bh back from the dealer I'm going to try and come up with something. Mainly going to use it to store some wood blocks and such.

If you don't want to use up your belly storage, you may want to look at something like this.

I built one out of wood, but you could easily make the frame out of aluminum angle or square tubing.

And here are the plans.

We use two 36" long "underbed" plastic storage bins without the covers. Fits drill for level jacks, blocks, hoses, parts from tow hitch, etc...

As long as you do not "throw" things into the bins to crack them they are great and cheap. See link below for a sample of such bins:

I mounted some wire shelving to the front wall of the pass through on mine.
I bolted rails to the wall on both sides (pass through & front compartment) and mounted the wire rack shelving upside down on the brackets so it made a lip to hold stuff. Now I have shelves in both compartments.

Question Details about your shelving

I am a new coach owner and I saw your post. What did you bolt your shelf into? I am afraid I would hit something important. Do you have more pictures up close so that I can see details more clearly? I appreciate any help. I have tons of room, but it is really wasted without some type of shelving in place.

Thank you,

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,
My unit is a 5th wheel. It has a wall between the inside storage pass through and the front compartment. (under the overhang)
Being in my basement area, there was nothing of importance inside this particular wall. Simply structural.
There's no plumbing or wiring within this wall on mine.

I basically sandwiched the wall between the rails (rails on both sides of the wall) and used through bolts w/nuts to fasten them. (a bolt through the rail, through the wall and through the rail on the other side with a nut) Then I mounted the braces and shelving on them just like you would in a closet in the house. With the exception (as I noted earlier) I mounted the wire shelving upside down so there would be something to keep the stuff from falling off the shelves.

I would guess that maybe you have a couple of walls in the basement of your coach that are common to two storage areas where you could possibly do the same thing. Certainly if you believe there is something of importance in there, check first!

Over the past 3 yrs, I have made several for different folks using garage door rails anchored to the basement floor. I made mine where the front half of the door hinges down for easier access. I also made Witch Doctor a slide out shelf using the same principle.

This are all great ideas for helping out with storage.
So far on my unit I have things in boxes and plastic crates and use a broom handle with a hook on the end to fish them out as needed.
A simple and quick thing to use to grab whats needed.
Happy Camping

I like this idea best. The pull out drawers are cool but I don't need anything that sophisticated. I will attach it to the aluminum framing. May use the stuff lowes sales. It's like a black plastic strip that you can add hooks, shelves, baskets, and so on.

after looking at the pic more, it is a shame they didn't put a little bit bigger storage door in it.

Yep... the sliding drawers are nice, don't get me wrong but they really don't ADD storage space, they just make it more convenient to get to the stuff in the middle. And as mentioned, if the cargo door happens to not be as big as the cargo space, then you are limited to what size drawer can slide in and out of the door.

I was looking for another level of shelving so I didn't have to stack stuff on top of stuff. The shelves did the trick for me. I have enough track that I could add another shelf (above or below) if I wanted.

and you can also get the shelves like yours but i don't think you can flip them. so the baskets may be a better option.
