Suburban Glass Cook Top Cover

Last night while I was sleeping a part fell off of my glass cook top cover. Scared the daylights out of me. Now I can't figure out how to get it back on

Not sure what its called. A flange?
Its the metal bar in front. As far as I can tell, there is someone kind of black silicone. Its that how its attached?

Mine is starting to loosen up, too. I am also interested how someone fixed theirs. Maybe a good silicone caulk??

I had a similar problem with mine. I cleaned off the black double sided tape and replaced it with black 3M VHB tape. This was a year ago and it's still holding. Just make sure you have very clean surfaces before bonding. Here's a link to the tape: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Scotch-595...x+15+ft.+black

Thanks Just ordered it.

When it got loose I kept trying to tighten the nuts just to find out they were keeping 2 parts attached. Not attached to the glass.

What a stupid design.

Mine is loosening up also and I agree with using the 3M VHB Tape. Have used that extensively and it is very strong.

Hmmm! Something else to watch for. I like the 3M tape suggestion. The black temp silicone looks like original, though clean up of the excess is not fun.

Get a small tube of black polyurathane. It's what is used to glue windshields in. It won't come off again. Just don't get it on your hands or anywhere else you don't want it. Available at most auto parts stores.

Mine was working loose at one in. Used superglue gel and held in place with a clamp.

Thank you SS Cruiser. I ordered the 3M VHB tape from Amazon and it did the trick! That stuff is strong!
I have extra tape and have other uses for it especially emergency repairs

Do you all leave it in the down position most of the time? I think it's really a back splash, but can be put down to give more flat surface. I wonder if people are leaving it down while using the oven. Maybe the heat from the oven and or pilot light is to much for the tape that's on there

We leave it down any time we're not using the burners. It's extra counter space. We don't use the oven that often, but when we do the glass is down unless we are using the burners. The glass is tempered and has some large holes at the back to vent the oven's heat.

My mother (she is 85 yo) was fixing dinner, had the stove glass down for more prep space. She had the green beans all prepped in the pot sitting on the glass on the stove...AND SHE LIT THE BURNER!!! In a short while the smoke alarm when off and every plastic part attached to the glass was melted. >$200 to replace and a lesson learned. Dad and I got a good laugh, and now we "got one on her". Lol

The top should be down for traveling and in the up position any time stove is used. Excessive heat on the glass can cause it to explode also. You where lucky. Later RJD
