Suggested camp ground near NY City.

Hi guys, we are traveling on a leg of our journey and traveling from College Park, MD eventually over to Cape Cod. We would like to stop and spend 3 or 4 days in and around New York City just to do some exploring. Can anyone recommend a Campground perhaps in PA or CN which would be close enough to the city with fairly easy access say a commuter train, ferry etc.. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

If you don't mind a parking lot type place there is Liberty RV Park in Jersey City. Ferry access right from their dock to the financial district. Tight fit but a decent stop for visiting the city.

Not to sure about PA or CN. You could have stayed at a campground on Long Island (Suffolk County). You take a commuter train into the city. When it's time to go you travel the scenic North fork through farm and wine country and take the whole rig onto the Orient Point ferry to New London Conneticut. It's a different way but makes it interesting.

Smile NY RV parking

We will be staying at the Moose in Riverhead NY. If you happen to be a Moose Member the rates are great.

As per Dalford. We stayed in Liberty RV Park in Jersey City last summer (2015). It is right on the river. All services (50 amp, water, sewer connection), but it's just a parking lot - not very attractive. We had no personal safety concerns. It was a little tight shoehorning my 43' 5th wheel in place - the sites are tight. The big feature is that the ferry to Wall St is right at the park. Great view across the river of NYC. Very convenient to Ellis Island and NYC, but I wouldn't want to stay longer than a few days.

There is also a very nice RV park in Florida, NY, north of the city on Rte 17. Stayed there twice, as they are near several fine wineries such as Brotherhood, the oldest in the country. They also have shuttles and can help you plan your day trip into the city.
