Progressive Industries can't be topped. Either hard-wired or portable; both have pros and cons. The biggest pro to the hard-wired is it essentially theft proof.
Longer-winded version here:

Thing of it as insurance against having to replace your on board electronics (tv, microwave, fridge, AC, water heater, etc) if something happens.

Go with hard wired , use lugs to the unit so if needed you can disconnect the unit for repair

Go to the Progressive Industries web site. They have upgraded the EMS PT 30c and 50c, however the EMS PT 30c and 50c are still great products and warrantied/guarantied for life. I can say both the 30c and 50c are well worth their price. Saved my inverter and electronics several times, surges, low voltage and no grounds.
