Surge protectors when using a generator

Wondering if it is necessary to use a surge protector device with a 3100 watt generator.

Don't have a generator, but I would definitely use one on it just in case of the genny had an engine surge.

Generators can surge too.. Or have their voltage fluctuate.. It would provide a good piece of mind, if nothing else..

YES!! Having worked with generators a lot at phone company I have found that they too will surge and drop, with all the things we have in our RV's surge protection is a must. Our new 36CKTS came with an auto transfer switch so I wired the protection between transfer switch and input to power panel to insure both shore and generator was protected.
