Surprising issue on TPMS on the TV

Just traded TV....got a 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500HD LTZ Crew Cab Diesel/Allison SRW....found out this truck does not have the factory TPMS on it and that it's not an option available on the 1 ton trucks...I've had 3/4 ton trucks prior to this truck and they always have the TPMS on them......so, here's the question....I have the TST 507 Flow-Thru System for the 5th wheel tires and spare....I now know that TST offers an internal sensor system....I'm thinking of purchasing 4 of the internal sensors w/valve stems for my TV....my current 507 monitor will read these 4 internal sensors just like it reads the ones on the camper.

Has anyone had any experience with doing what I'm thinking about doing or with the internal sensors, in general.....they're pricey...$316 from TST for the 4 sensors w/stems? Opinions or thoughts would be appreciated.

I think a truck over 10k (maybe more) does not need the follow the same airbag and tire rules. Hence why they do not even offer them.

I was mostly interested in the internal sensors too... Tireman said the main thing was pressure and not temperature as they generally got hot because of loss of pressure. I saved the $140 and got external. JMO

You are correct on the 10,000lb gvw. It's worded as a vehicle produced September 01, 2007 (4536kg) 10,000lb or less must have TPMS. Also all duallies, (even under 10gs) are exempt from the mandate.

That should work just fine. I'm surprised it's not an option, I have it on the F350.

Of course any manufacturer CAN include the system on heavier vehicles but they don't have too. Over 10,000 gvw, it's there choice. It should be at least an option on all makes. It is a nice convenient safety feature.

Thanks everyone for the info.....my new 1 ton has a GVWR of 11,500 lbs so, looks like I'm exempt and that's why it's not an option offered.....also, just weighed it on a cat scale loaded for a trip without 5th wheel hooked on and it weighed 8720 lbs.....ready to hook on tomorrow morning and head for Gadsden AL rally.

Just want to add that I added a TireMinder A1A Tire Pressure Monitoring System when I picked up our used 2014 Silverback in July. I have monitors on all 10 tires including the 2008 Dodge 3500 dually. Very glad to have this "insurance". The only hard part of the installation was to get the "booster" installed on full-time power in the truck.

What difference does it make on the weight of the TV. I consider toms a great safety item. They work no matter what the weight is. Manufactures are always looking for ways to increase profits. I wonder what a toms option would run if you could get it. Probably more than an aftermarket.
