If you take it odds are you will not need it.

Odds are if you do not take it you will wish you had!

Take it!

We brought ours and for the first 8 months never used it going from CA to DC, roving around the East Coast and then back for the Holidays. I was looking for some storage space and thought, I should have left that generator at home. Then our converter died just before boondocking in Death Valley. We got to Death Valley and I figured we could go a few days on the 2 batteries if we were careful. But because the converter must have died before we left full hookups, the battery was low. We got to Death Valley, setup and all of a sudden the LP/CO Alarm starts beeping due to low battery. Boy was I happy we had the generator with us, fired it up, still had no voltage and found the dead converter. Hooked up the battery charger and plugged it into the generator and all was good until I got a new converter.
Short answer, take it with you.

My last trip of the season was to a gathering in northern NJ. My travel companion booked up a site but when we got there, the site was too small so we ended up staying someplace with no hookups. Thankfully, I had brought the generator since it dropped into the 20's overnight and the site manager had no problems with us running the genny all night.

Why would you need to run the generator all night, since your furnace is propane and a battery will last at least one night.

I forgot to mention that I failed to properly maintain my batteries by not keeping the cells filled with distilled water. I figured this out after going to bed on the first night and waking up cold at 1AM.

Won't make that mistake again.

Leave it at home. If you find out you need one when you are far from home you can buy another one.

I have noticed that when CG power goes out folks tend to be a bit more social and friendlier.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I guess the Mr. Obvious answer would be, "bring the generator for times you are without shore power and your batteries will not suffice."

Of course, who knows the answer to that question with 100% accuracy...

Wow... "Mr. Obvious", really?? Hmm... As I stated, I was leaning towards taking it with us. I was asking what others have done. Whether it be generator, solar, extra batteries...

I plan to have 300+ watts of solar so that I "never" need a generator. That said, I'm going to also do a soft start on the AC and a "2000" watt generator, probably champion. It'll eventually be bumper mounted (with structure reinforcement). You know, someday.....

easier to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Sort of like the military philosophy - "pack light freeze at night".
solar is fine for charging the batteries but if you want to watch TV and other things - just take the generator for all it will cost in time effort and gas and the family will thank you!!!!
trust me on that.
