Tell me where to go....be nice now...

Sitting in Gettysburg and thinking of heading towards the Pigeon Forge area, but don't want to stay in the high traffic area. What do you all recommend as a good place to base camp?

40" Fifth Wheel, prefer full hookups and 50 amp service.

Imagination Mountain Resort on 321 outside of Gatlinburg is nice. Small, quiet, and very clean family run campground. We've stayed there many times.

Look in the Wears Valley area. Plenty of options. Very pretty and far enough to avoid the crowds but close enough to get back into town as desired.

Wears valley

X 2 on Wears Valley on 321. Many RV parks in this area and you have a close up view of the Great Smoky Mtns Nat Park. Several RV parks on 321
any where from 4 miles to 12 miles from all the traffic. The farther away you travel away from US-441 on 321 to Wears Valley the higher you get
and cooler weather.

Good luck

So if you are looking for a nice place to camp on the way to Pigeon Forge make JC Cooper campground in NC on Kerr Lake part of you route. Electric and water sites lakefront with killer sunsets and fantastic fishing. You can swim off your site. That is where we are headed to now.

Pine Mountain RV park is two blocks off the strip. Street light #6 in Pigeon Forge. Quiet but close to attractions, convenient .50 cent trolly and big rig compatible.

Without a doubt any of the campgrounds in Townsend. Quiet, peaceful and you are still only 25-ish minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Plus you will see more wildlife in Townsend.

Here is our favorite campground:

Big Meadow Family Campground | Smoky Mountain Camping in Townsend, TN

We've stayed at the KOA in Pigeon Forge. It's very pricey, especially if you dont make advance reservations. But, central to all the touristy going ons and right outside Dolly Wood.

KOA in Townsend is great. It's on the upper end of KOAs price wise but friendly clean and quite. really close to Cade's Cove which is our favorite place down there.
Go in thru Maryville hwy 321 if possible from your route and you'll bypass the pigeon forge traffic and tight corners on Wears Valley...

We really like Pine Mountain and your rate includes use of the swimming pool at hotel across the street.

Camp LeConte on RT321 about 4 miles outside Gatlinburg. Away from the chaos but close to everything.

We are at Tremont in Townsend right now. Quiet and at the back door of the smokies. Only about 20 minutes to pigeon forge.

Gatlinburg

We have stayed at Twin Creek Campground resort 2 miles away from the hustle and bustle. Been camping for 40 years and is the most beautiful campground we have ever stayed at. Have seen bears so don't leave food scraps outside. Use the trolley to get around fast and cheap.
