SS, I agree 100%. Nothing more than a money grab by the state. I can pay for the fee on Monday, unknowingly bust a light on Tuesday, therefore completely negating the point of the inspection, and then get a ticket on Wednesday. Ain't that some bull. I'll also add this: consumers aren't the only ones getting ripped with this new scheme. We've had some stations stop doing inspections altogether in my area. The state required the stations to purchase a printer and provide ink and paper for it with the new law, whereas they used to provide the stickers- or at least let the station charge to cover that cost. The stations are making pretty much nothing to do it now- it wasn't much before. In addition, in my area most of the inspection stations are NOT setup to handle large trailers.

The stations are making the same or actually more since you have to have your trailers inspected. The only thing that has changed for the stations is they don't collect the sticker fee which before they had to buy the stickers up front.

You apparently know more about it than my BIL's family that has run a shop in our area for several generations now. They stopped doing inspections because of this new law.

Yes I guess I do, I am part owner in a station. Nothing has changed, you still make the same amount of money per sticker. Maybe you are from some tiny town that they still hand writes all records. Most stations have to do emissions test and have the computers and printers. They always have to print the form for inspection and the state never pays for anything.

I suppose this is the way it always is. A large station can more easily absorb the costs, or, like you state, is often already setup to be able to adapt more easily to these new laws.

So I'm awakening a dead thread to report that I got my Texas inspection and registration done for my trailer. Did what Stg1 planned - had the inspection done on the way to the lake - called ahead for the details. All is well except my bank account.
