Texas state inspection

Hello from Deep South Texas,

Where do you go to get a TT inspected?
I just learned you can't renew your registration without an inspection.

Thanks

Call any of the local auto inspectors and see if they do it. I take mine to a U-Haul/junk yard to get mine done. I have used 2 different ones and they check all lights and turn signals. Neither have checked brakes. They will require you to provide current insurance papers. Can't remember if they require registration but probably do.

You can also get an inspection at any Rv dealership because they must inspect all Rv's they sell.

They will print out an inspection report and you take it to the auto license department in your county and you are issued a new sticker for your current plate. I would take registration and proof of insurance just in case.

The inspection station works the same way as your auto inspection does. Sorry if my registration and insurance documents for the motor vehicle office is sketchy because mine is due soon and last year was the first year of the new law. Prior to that inspections were required but documentation not required to get the sticker and I, along with many, never got theirs inspected.

Texas State Registration

Hi All,
In my last post I was looking for places that did state trailer inspections for tag renewal purpose. I learned that you don't have to get an inspection if your trailer has a gross limit of 4500 lbs or less. my Micro Lite has a gross weight of 4000 lbs, so no state inspection needed to renew my tags. as of today we are Legal Beagle once again and ready for the road.

Thanks for all of your help I hope this information is helpful.

Thanks for the update. Too often we do not hear of solutions. I knew the weight limit before needing inspection but did not think about it.

Texas inspection

Used to never worry about it but now it is a must do to license. Got mine done at Jiffy-Lube. Texas finally found a way to insure they get your money on trailer inspections.
Happy Trails This Season

This is what I did in Texas: I went online to renew without inspection because I didn't want to hookup and take my fiver to an inspection station. There is a place were you can check that you will be out of state at renewal time and it will let you renew and they send the sticker to you. When I am ready to use my fiver, I will hookup and go to an inspection station on my way. The Escapees RV Club worked hard on this issue because many of the member are full-time RVers who don't get back to Texas often and the new one sticker was going to be a burden. You have to get your RV inspected when you do get back to Texas. Good Luck

Got mine inspected today. They checked lights, tires and brakes. He had me pull the pin on the break away switch to see if the wheels would lock when trying to move the trailer with the truck. Good for another year.

Glad I live in a civilized state! LOL

One time license for all trailers, including camping trailers of every size. Never ever again have to renew it. Period.

Inspection fee isn't bad, only $7.00 They get you on the yearly registration renewal, $70.00 for my rv.

The biggest problem I've found is finding a place that you can actually get a trailer in and out of. My old 21' wasn't a problem so much as the new one is. Most of the places in my area are small parking lot / one entrance type deals.

I went to a Quick Lube place on Saturday and parked beside them. They inspected outside. I did check first.

Isn't the inspection like a car. $7.00 at the inspection site and $7.00 added to the registration renewal fee?

Yes-$7.00 for inspection fee but found nothing on the registration renewal that the state sent me to that added another $7.00. my camper registration renewal and sticker was $128.50.

I believe I remember there were taxes / fees that used to be charged with inspection that are no longer charged. Those charges were moved to the registration. I think before, the inspection alone would be a little more than $12.

Since the adoption of no inspection stickers (this year) $7.00 is collected at the inspection place and $7.00 is added to the registration charge which brings the total to the $14.00 previous charge for inspection and sticker. Inspection verification is now done through the internet and a separate inspection sticker is not issued. The inspection can be accomplished within 90 days of when the new registration is due. This is all old stuff now. If trailer type RV inspections (I have a MH) have been different than self propelled vehicles all along then I don't know what the rules changed to, if at all.

I believe they've been the same as cars this whole time and haven't really changed in nearly 20 years. They've required inspection, but very few ever did one. The location of the stickers on trailers made it pretty hard to verify it even had one unless you got pulled over for something. I'd be surprised if they didn't see a 200% increase in inspection fees for trailers since they found a way to actually force most people to do it.

However, whoever and whatever, they get your money. I went to a couple of places that did car inspections and asked if they did RV inspections. The did, and I of course chose the one easiest to get into and out of. They looked at the tires and made sure all the lights worked. Took my money and sent me on my way.

Registered my TH this morning and yeah I paid 7 bucks at the inspection center but at the Collin County Registration they charged me an additional 22 bucks for inspection. So paid them 80 bucks and some change.
