Yes the law is vague but trust me lots of super troopers are now looking for it! I also pull 30 ft. Flatbed goosenecks and have 2 of them and was never told about inspec. Required on them until I was pulled over by a super trooper. They state that anything over 4500 lbs. empty weight or if it's over 4500 after loaded has to have a state inspection sticker now. And it has nothing to do with the tax office, no info. Is given about this when you pay for your annual tags. Just more of your tax dollars!

Sounds like a good reason to stay out of TX, PA & MD.

I can't believe that states have a tax we don't have in Ontario Canada, we get our plate when its registered and that's it you don't even have to pay an annual fee "YET".

In NS we have to have the trailer inspected every 2 years and pay around 100 dollars a year to register it.

Looked through the text for the correct placement of the inspecton sticker. According to the text in 3.20.5, it is to be placed on a window at or near the left front or side of the vehicle.

Hope this helps anyone else dealing with TX inspections!

It's a way to

get more money. Simple as that. What happens when a light on your trailer goes out the day after the inspection? Or what if your brakes stop working? It is your responsibility as a driver to check your equipment and make sure everything is working properly before every trip. Vehicle inspection is a crock as well. You know everything is in good working order for 1 day, but what about the other 364? IMHO, they shouldn't be able to ticket you for faulty equipment as long as you have your inspection sticker. After all, it is there to guarantee everything works, correct?

Welcome to NB CANADA

At one time we were the Picture Prov.

Now we are the Be ... in this place

(add your own term in the ...)

Annual inspections on Cars Trucks Trailers of all sorts but not on Murdercycles?

Plate gets stolen off trailer (mine 2 times) 50 dollars for a new one. Saw one of them going last week. Inspection sticker is designed for outside of vehicle placemetn making it easy to scrape off and place on a thiefts trailer with no cost.
Mine disappeared once.

Death by Taxes.

In Texas, I believe the inspection "fees" are used for road maintenance. Interesting outlook dustman. I guess technically you are correct. Sorta. But it does make you wonder, if the broken light was caused by the beat up road, just what the heck are you paying for??

Well, who knows for sure. I suspect we'll see lots more "discussion" on this before the thread dies.

I am in Texas. The inspection sticker is on the tongue, driver side. It can be inspected at any state inspection shop. The cost is $14.

I was told that Louisiana required an inspection if it goes on the road. I have always had my boat and travel trailer inspected. they check the lights and may look for safety chains. they give u the sticker and stamp a large X on the side that would be placed on a windshield (to keep u from using it on something else). I have never been asked for one.
My dealer did not inspect and didn't know it was required.
abt a year ago, they started enforcing it in this area on boat trailers.

Oh, u don't display the sticker. u carry it with ur registration and have to present it if asked.
