The big complaint I have with Jiffy Pop is that it has a relatively short shelf life.
When checking out at the store, some younger clerks will ask "what is that".
Whirley Pops do good. Mine was kinda defective from the get go, and it's my fault for not getting a part under warranty. I got my Whirley Pop from Bass Pro Shops, but Wal-Mart and other places carry them.
The one I have, the main gear is plastic, and is held on to the crank shaft with a metal set screw. Well, evidently the set screw stripped out the plastic and would not stay in the plastic gear, working it's way out... and then the gear would fall off the shaft.
I got irritated with this, and was going to put loctite or something to stop this but one of us lost the gear in the interim. After reading this thread, I may go ahead and order a gear, and try to put our whirley pop back in action.
