Red face The best way to make popcorn over a gas cooktop

What is the best way to make popcorn over a gas cooktop? I love hot air poppers, but that takes 110 volts. I found only one 12 volt popper and it takes 13 amps.

Use a thick bottom pot with a couple tbsp of cooking oil over medium heat.

13 amps isn't really that bad. Considering if it took 5 mins to make popcorn with the 12v popper, that would be a tiny bit over 1 amp hour from the battery.

X2

Started with my father when I was kid. The handle to turn the inside paddle was on top and I remember getting burned a few times The new one seems to be safer and makes darn good popcorn!

We never had a popper until I was in fifth grade, just used a pot with a lid, keep the lids very slightly open to vent steam and give those biceps a great workout as you shake the devil out of the pan over the fire.

I build a campfire (actually use my propane firepit) and use one of these long handled poppers... been doing so for 3 years now... does not burn and pops fast...

small pot with some cooking oil or butter in the bottom. heat the oil / butter and put some popcorn kernels in and cover.
then continue to move the covered pot back and forth on the low heat flame and wait for a few seconds and the magic will happen.

note to self - make sure the pot is big enough to handle the popcorn once popped.

Ok, here it is. Take the largest pan you have with a cover. Like the one mom use to make a pot roast in. Turn on the gas, put the pan uncovered on the burner. put a FEW pop corn kernels in the pan. add veg oil or butter just enough to cover the kernels. wait until the corn pops then add just enough corn to cover the bottom of the pan. cover the pan. once the corn starts to pop again keep shaking the pan until corn discontinues poping. Pour out into large serving dish. Enjoy. I made popcorn like this for over 15 years in a theatre never had any complaints.

we use organically grown kernels because any product that can sit in a shelf like military rations for years and still be serviceable or safe to eat.... well generally isn' going into my grand kids stomachs.
