The Long, Long Trailer

My wife and I watched this movie recently and we really enjoyed it. It was made back in the mid 50s and stars Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. It's about a couple that chooses to by a TT and pull it cross country. It's interesting to see the parallels to RVing today. Plus it's pretty funny. Is you've never seen it, please do.

Yes it is a good movie, I saw the movie when I was little, but couldn't remember the name. Thank you, now I can look online to buy it for my family to see it. I would watch "I Love Lucy " show all the time.

I've seen it several times growing up. It's been a long time since I saw it last. I was telling my DW about it earlier last week and shortly that same evening I was flipping through the satellite channels and it was just going off. DW's never seen it. It was made the same year I was hatched and in the theaters in February 1954.

I bought the DVD for our grandkids, ages 5 & 6. It is one of their favorite things to watch! Just goes to show some things, "trailer brakes" and "backing in" are timeless sources of trailer towing hilarity!

One of our favorites. We say "trailer brakes" anytime we forget to do something. Always makes us laugh.

I thought everybody had a copy of that movie. If you're ever out west, that curvy road where she loses all her rocks is still there... and still without pavement or guards on the road. At least the last time I went up it it was still like that.

That movie is priceless. The long long trailer and RV are required viewing for anybody that camps with a trailer or motorhome.

When I brought home our first TT, The DW came out to see it for the first time, she raced looking through all the cabinets and drawers so fast that I stopped her and asked, what are you looking for? She looked at me and smiled then said that she was looking for places to keep her rocks.

This is a must for anyone who pulls a trailer!!!

My ex tried to do exactly what Lucy did! She tried collecting rocks, wood, flowers... from our trip to Mt Rushmore!!!

When we got home she went to open all the stash places in the FW, to her surprise it was all gone... YES everyday I would open up cupboards and throw them out... couple times she would see the same stupid rocks she picked up in South Dakota in Montana!! it was the same rock I did not throw it out far enough!! She was so mad!!! didn't talk to me for a week!!

A little Behind the scenes info of that movie... we lived just a mile from Lucy and Rickey's ranch her in the San Fernando Valley... they lived on Devonshire and Corbin Ave... Ricky bought/acquired/stole the Yellow Trailer and had it on their property, some say he used it to hide from Lucy when their were having one of their blow out fights!!! Once he built the Pool house next to the pool, he then used it instead of the trailer!!

You can see the complete movie, The Long, Long Trailer, at this link:
Watch Videos Online | The Long, Long Trailer (1953) Comedy, Romance, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz and Marjorie Main.mp4 | Veoh.com

To me it looks like a "house" trailer (once commonly know as a mobile home) rather than a RV.

My favorite line from the movie is the scene where Lucy is navigating, and tells Ricky to turn right here. He does so, and ends up on a dead end road. He is voicing his dis-pleasure to Lucy, and Lucy responds by saying "You didn't let me finish - I was saying turn right here left." This is now part of our 'on-the-road lexicon' traveling with our 43' 5th wheel, when we've made a wrong turn. Sure breaks the tension and keeps us laughing, while I figure out how to get the razzle, frazzle rig turned around.

We bought DVD's of both "The Long, Long Trailer" and "RV" with Robin Williams and keep both in our TT. If interested, you can download the original "The Long, Long Trailer" book for free online. The movie version is a little bit different but close. There is also a nice "who done it" mystery for free in the Kindle books called "The Long Wrong Trailer" for those who like a quick read on their camping trips.

Thanks for the link. For some reason that site will not play the movie all the way through. It cycles to the next video in the list well before it's over. I'll keep trying but so far no luck. It happens at random times. I have even signed up as a member of Veoh, but nothing. Any hints?

And for those who like thrills and chills, try "Race with the Devil" and the original version of "The Hills Have Eyes." Camping nightmares for those who like such things.

and to think, you use to see cars pulling trailers quite regularly back in the 60's and 70's. My folks pulled single axle...18 - 19 footer with a 66 Impala two dr. Uncle welded the hitch onto the car frame with a support bolted thru the trunk and a 1/2" steel bar inside trunk.
