Theft prevention...what do you do

I just read the posts on campground thefts. Although I don't really worry about it as I normally camp on my own land, or in state parks, there is a little thing in the back of my mind that want to feel safe. So here's what I do...

cable lock for the bikes and genny. and two dogs for the inside of the camper. and at home,










in the hitch. free and no one can pull away with my camper.

anyone else want to share their security ideas?

Never had a theft at a campground in 30 years more I am concerned about the camper when it is at home................. we do not lock our doors half the time........

I do nothing if they want it bad enough they will get it......... the lock is the weakest link anyway......................

On the other thread I mentioned I had a power cable stolen. I now padlock cables and extensions together by looping them. On my 2503S I don't have the hard wired power cable so I padlock it to the bumper.

If you see some guy on the road with a bunch of cable dragging behind it might be me - if I ever lose those keys!

In most cases hitch couplers have a nut down below that can be loosened so as your lock ball will fall out then the nut re-tightened .
This nut is to adjust the locking mechanism as it wears .

I would like to see a picture of your anti wire theft system. I'm not picturing it in my head and the wire theft thing concerns me. Scrap copper prices are way up and I needs my A/C to sleep as Popeye would say.

I was going to mention that same thing. I have used that in an emergency to get an old flatbed trailer off a truck at one point.

One of my dogs tries to scare off EVERYone. Even friendly folks. The other one? He'd invite an intruder in to sit and have a drink.

Cute dogs, but we seem to have drifted off topic a bit...

I have a king pin lock that I use for storage but never at the campground (even beach days where we're going for 8+ hours). I figure if the crook is going to break in AND move all of our stuff to put in the 4-slides, (s)he's determined!

I do like up our bikes - only mine was expensive, but the two ladies might get miffed if I leave theirs unlocked while locking mine up. But it's more for looks as it is a cheap cable.

And- depending on where and who I'm camping with, my truck keys are possibly laying on the floor or center console! Yes, even overnight as in my tent camping days, I've had to use the 12v cigarette lighter outlet for my CPAP machine.

We tuck things under the awning or camper at night, but that's more for dryness than security.

We use bike/cable locks to lock up our kayak trailer (has custom built storage for the PFD's and seats) and kayaks. We have a hitch lock for the camper.

The dogs are about all the security we use in campgrounds............I lock the truck doors but that is about it (more of a habit)........... Don't leave my wallet on the table of course....... We don't carry alot of valuables but would not want to loose anything.........
