I haven't done this, but I'm paranoid about it. I tap both handles everytime before I remove the safety cover.
Helped a friend with her 43' tag axle American Eagle last weekend with tanks that hadn't been emptied in a year since her father passed. I not only pushed on the handles, but I prayed the valves were not leaking by. Luckily, they weren't.

The Budweiser commerical that only ran once come to mind. Seeing those massive horses bowing tugged at the heat n brought tears as well
