This is probably not a new topic but I didn't see it anywhere.

I have a Honda 2000 generator that is parallel capable. My question is can I parallel it with a predator 2000

On the pictures of them both , they look like the same generator

The pictures don't show the electronics ( heart of an inverter generator).

They definitely are NOT the same generator.
I own a Honda 2000i and have looked at the Predator 2000 in person.
The only things that they share are the color red and basic shape/weight.

Yes I have the Honda 2000ui , and like it . But if the 2nd one that purchase can be cheaper, like the predator and the cable hook up is the same why wouldn't it work??

Hi Indy,

I think it would be a stretch to believe these different manufacturers used identical circuitry that would electrically interact properly.

I personally wouldn't risk frying my $1,000 Honda without some pretty strong evidence.

FWIW.

The circuitry in the two generators has to be smart enough to match phasing and voltages. You can't pair two non-identical Honda generators together. Here's what Honda says:
Quote:
EU2200i and EU2000i Parallel Operation

The EU2200i are only compatible with EU2000i or EU2000i Companion models within a specific serial number range:

EAAJ-2017305 through EAAJ-9999999
EACT-1000001 through EACT-9999999

Connecting an EU2200i with an EU2000i or EU2000i Companion that is not within the compatible serial range above may cause a low voltage output, which can damage tools and appliances powered by the generators. Units outside the compatible serial number range should only be paralleled with another EU2000i.

I get what the manual says...manufacturers cannot test everything and don't design it to function that way so they say no to limit liability. I make no claims at understanding this but I was curious as well before and tried looking it up.

Not sure I would do this across brands if I were the OP. This shows 3 different hondas together. Not sure I would try with my generators and camper but it does seem to work.

I don't believe everything I read on the interwebs but seems credible. I would have felt much better if some of these guys understood what they had done better but seems like they tried it...

Or you can sell your Honda and buy a pair of Predators with the money.

Yes that's a thought, but I have only had the Honda for a year. And if you seen my garage you would know I never get rid of anything LOL

Just a thought, the predator sells for 499.00 at HF I could get 2 of them for less than a new Honda. Thanks for kick starting my brain.

Actually they often are on sale for $429 with coupon.
They are rated 3db louder than the Honda.

So the answer is no... but it is yours to test out and let everyone else know what the actual facts are. Maybe a dealer can demonstrate how well two generators will parallel.

FWIW: Because of patent issues, it is very unlikely that equivalent circuits are used by various manufacturers. If an equivalent circuit was used due to patent expiration or licensing, I would expect the newer user to make that an advertising claim. You can bet that HF would love to be able to advertise "Compatible with Honda".

You didn't say why you needed to go from one generator to two generators. If it is to overcome the starting current of an air conditioner, consider installing a Micro-Air EasyStart on the AC unit. As for the lowest price on a Honda generator, Northern Tool has a sale once or twice a year. I was able to pick up a Honda EU2200i for $780 from Northern Tool.
