Tire blowout in Louisiana (multiple threads merged)

For my RVing friends, check your tires for proper inflation, age (tires have a life span), max speed rating (many trailer tires are only rated for 65 mph), and proper loading. The lower the tire pressure, the more heat is generated and weakens the tire construction. Speed also increase tire temperature, quite a bit. Learn about your tires and their care. Look into a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Trust me, you'll learn bunches about your tires and it can save you a lot of money in damage to your coach from a blowout. Tire failure can happen quickly.

Blowout +ClassA + Speed = Bad

Just a gentle reminder, slower speeds in your class A not only saves you MPG, but aids your chances of not flipping over into oncoming lanes in the event of a blowout.

This post came over from IRV2.com. When I had my 40' DP, this was constantly on my mind, and reminded that 55 MPH is fine... I'll get there!

RV Crash

This happened in Louisiana on I-10 yesterday. It points out how quickly things can happen.

Hope they're OK. I didn't see anything on the road that the driver was trying to avoid.

It looks like the left front tire came apart. You can see the tread carcass flying past the back in the video and a decent shot of the front tires in one of the pictures. As ugly as it was they were lucky that nobody hit them whey they crossed into the other lanes.

Bad roll over

Guys and gals this happened on I10 a couple days ago. Front tire blow out caused it.

Be careful out there!

Looked like the roll over was ultimately caused by driver error. He was doing good after the blowout until he steered left just before the rollover.

There's a cable guard rail in the median that broke and hooked the rear tires.

Many years ago I worked one of these. This one though the large MH was pulling a large TT. We had to use dump trucks and front end loaders to clean it up. There was nothing but splinters left.

No one has said what the speed was. I didn't take video, it was provided by a truck driver's dash cam. I drive that portion of I10 a few times a week and most trucks are doing 60 to 70 mph. If the truck was doing 70 (the speed limit) the RV looks to be doing 75+. That's a lot of weight to get surprised with. The good thing is that the cable guards in the median kept the RV from shooting into the opposite lane of travel. According to the LA DOTD, the wire guard rails aren't designed to stop large vehicles, but it sure did a great job of slowing it down!

Those cables in the middle of the interstate saved lives that day.

Glad the injuries were minor, this could have been so much worse.
