Tire Monitors

I saw this while looking at new TT and trying to figure out what brand they are and how good they are. I know they are tire pressure monitors but not much more.

A little help will go a long way

Tire Monitors

Never seen those before.
There might just be a little spring behind, and the air pressure pushes the green up.

Not that accurate.

They are made by many companies . Just do a search on color indicating tire pressure caps. Which one you buy depends on the normal operating pressure as they are factory set. Although they are convenient they are not real accurate and only indicate lower than normal pressures not higher. It is a little more effort, but I recommend a good tire pressure gauge.

May be nothing more than a glorified cap? The green probably signifies nitrogen and the 50 might be the recommended pressure?? Just a guess

The TST 507 are not cheap but they give me piece of mind, they work.

They are actually 3 color monitoring caps, Example a 50 cap will be green for anything above 45 psi orange for 35-45psi and red below 35 psi. Set of 4 about $10. As I suggested a good tire pressure gauge.

I have a utility trailer that does more sitting than anything. From what you all are saying they are what I thought they were. Spring activated. I was thinking they would be OK to use on that but not the TT.

X2 FlyBob.
Those only tell you the approx pressure while you are standing there looking at them. You NEED a good TPMS that reports to you in real-time. You need to know when you have a problem [slow leak] before it becomes a much bigger problem [blowout].
I have used the TST 507 RV system for about two years and it has performed perfectly. I've had 4 blowouts and 2 slow leaks and each time the monitor let me know immediately. Wouldn't even think about leaving home without it.
You get what you pay for!! It will pay for itself over time. JMHO

It doesn't sound like your TPMS was doing you any justice if you have had four blowouts while using it. The TPMS should have given you enough warning that the pressure was building in the tire before it blow.

Many times when you have a blowout or tread separation, there is no rise in temp or pressure, just "BOOM".
The TPMS doesn't stop a faulty tire from exploding. It will only tell you when there is a potential problem or a catastrophic event. Many times, people have had blowouts and didn't know it till a passing car informed them. Otherwise, they could have driven till the remnants were set on fire or ground down to nothing but a metal rim. It happens often!
A TPMS doesn't "STOP" any problem, it only notifies you as to the temp, pressure, and any variances, in real time. It's up to you to use this information to whatever end.

So, blowouts are from high pressure?

On a more serious note, TPMS- wouldn't leave home without it.

Yep...my advice for all new folks with RVs is to make their #1 upgrade a good set of TPMS sensors!!! (I'll never go without them, now, either.)

I should have said blowouts can be caused from high pressure or low pressure. Low pressure causing the tire to heat up and become weak. A TPMS should indicate a state of low pressure and or temperature rise indicating something is wrong before it becomes a real problem.

I have the TST 507 and it tells me if there is an increase or decrease in PSI or an increase in temp.

Maybe some of you could link to the TPMS that you are using? That would be helpful for those of us considering.

With what I know now, I would have gotten this:

Truck System Technologies TPMS 4 Sensor Tire Monitor System w Flow Thru Sensors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XNVA1B6..._egyQwb22APRH2

I currently am using the non flow thru sensors that I have to take off to add air.

We use the TST 507RV with flow through sensors. Great company with personal service. The monitor is easy to setup and the company will provide you with extra "O" rings and seals for the sensors just by calling them. Great investment to make on any RV.

I bought the TST 507 system with flow-through sensors from these people. They had the best price I found at the time, they extended the normal 2-year warranty to 3 years and the product was shipped from the manufacturer!
Edit: Oh and Free Shipping!
