Tire Speed Rating

I keep seeing comments about trailer tires rated at 70 MPH max. Does any one know where this is written or posted? I have looked at my tires and documentation and cant find anything on the subject.

According to Discount Tire, Carlisle has a speed rating of L, which is up to 70 MPH. Most other brands show N/A. Through some research, I know that Goodyear Marathons have a max speed rating of 65 MPH.

I have Double King tires that have a speed rating up to 99 mph. Do not plan to ever pull at that speed though.

Actually the industry standard for ST trailer tires is 65MPH. Some brands are rated for higher speeds. See Here for an overview.

Are those trailer tires? Hard to imagine any ST tire rated up to 99 MPH.

Double King DK688 ST235/80R16. Had some specs, can't find them now. Will look.

load speed rating of 123Q which I believe is 3520lbs load and 99mph speed

Mine are rated 65 mph, don't go over 60. Where are you going in such a hurry. I pull with a 1/12 5 pick-up and see big boys pass me and up the road, their down with a flat. Slow down, life is short, and tires last longer.

65 mph is a tire industry standard published in the Tire & Rim Association yearbook.

The letter grade speed rating are based on passenger car tire test specified by SAE.

Despite some tires showing faster speed ratings most major tire companies place a operating speed limit of 75 mph in RV application unless the tire is rated lower (such as 62 for certain size tires) or a max of 65 for tires with no speed symbol molded on the tire sidewall.

I note that the heavy trucking industry is seeing an increase in tire failure rate in locations where the highway speed limit has been raised above 70 mph.

Hi. Has anybody used the Maxxis M8008 tires on there travel trailer. I'm looking to buy four new tires because I suppose I have China bombs on my trailer and want to replace. I can not find the Good Year G614 in my size.

It would be of help if you listed your current Size, Load Range and measured load on the tires.

I use LT Goodyear on the camper but I run at 60 or less, mostly less I run the back roads. I like to see something besides the interstate, I am in no hurry to get there besides its the journey that counts and it's safe to just slow down
