My group likes Maxxis M8008 for ST tires. Next is Carlisle. The rest of the group switched to LT tires.

Goodyear Endurance should be at the top of the list.

Trailer King, Power Max and TowMax (AKA - BlowMax) are all the same tire and get that AKA for a reason...they are junk!
Load Star and Goodyear Marathon tires about the same...junk tires!
Maxxis and Carlisle tires are good, as is the Hercules tires!
And the new Goodyear Endurance tires have been getting good reviews, although they've only been out a year or so.
I put a full set of Hercules 225/75/15 E range tires on my 5'ver about 3 months and 1400 miles ago.
Love them so far!

After the disaster with Goodyear Marathons, I'll wait until GY Endurance has been out for 4-5 years

I had all 4 of my Hercules fail during the 5th year on a boat trailer...about 4.5 years old(all had big bubbles). They were the China made ones though.
I only uses Maxxis now. Maybe Endurance in 4 years once the beta testers are done.

This is a very subjective subject. I did not have good luck with Carlisle. The Goodyear Endurance are a year old and have 12,000 miles with no problems.

Allenb12,
Please tell what kind of problems you had with the Carlisle tires. How many miles and how old were they?
I just want to know what to watch out for in the future.
Thank you,
Tim

I read lots of posts on preferences for brands. I have no comment there. What I'm seeing from what I consider reputable engineer types is that people should increase the load range over what is commonly OEM. They are starting tosuggest you look for tires that have a max load rating that is close to or greater than 120% of the weight of your rig. I read the recommendation to be actual weight of the trailer with no adjustment for your tongue weight.

I agree with SailorSam, I increased the load range from D to E I selected Goodyear Endurance, and Discount Tired put 80 pounds in the tires.
One of the items that I had to have in a new TT was 15" tires, which Surveyor uses on the "251"

We just replaced all our TT tires with Carlisle Trail HD Radial. We put just over 1500 miles on them in the last two weeks and have been very happy. Bumped up from the original "C" tires to "D" and gained almost a 500lbs cushion.
These are a fairly new model for Carlisle and all but the 16" tires have an 81 mph rating.

I had Carlisle tire on a boat trailer, and spare I owned. The tires were about 5 years old. I towed approximately 25 miles to launch the. Three trips in a row one blew out. I have had tires up to 10 years on some of my boats with out a problem.

Doesn't matter how many miles. It's time that the is the killer and it's recommended to change after 5 years. In fact, running them so little is actually to their detriment.

I need someone to define how a trailer "handles" better between one tire and another.

Mine tracks better with no sway compared to the original Constancy tires. Goodyear Endurance 205/75-14.
