Tires
I had a blow out over the last week on the way home and now I need four new tires. I have ST 205 75r14. What are everyone's thought on Goodyear marathons???

We had GR marathons on our RV for a little more than a year. Then this happened
The belts had separated inside. Would have been catastrophic had we not caught it before our trip. We no longer have those tires. With that being said, I'm sure a lot of folks really like them. To me, after seeing that I no longer had piece of mind. On our last RV we had Maxxis tires from day one. After 7 years we replaced them with another set of Maxxis tires. Never had 1 problem. I personally would look at Maxxis as my choice for a lighter RV. Just my 2 cents. Jerry.

Kumho 857s or Hankook RA08 in 195r14 is the BEST replacement tire; 8 ply, load range D, 99 mph rated and carry 2100# each instead of the 1720 that the st205s carry. Busdepot.com has the best price on the Hankooks; I've had a set for a year and o problems.

My vote is for the kumhos. Had them and liked a lot. Did well in the wet too.

So far the Maxxis I bought a few months ago are doing well. I've read a lot of bad about the Goodyears. I had very bad experience with them on my last boat trailer... so no more Goodyears for me.

I had the same issue as Jerry with my Marathons, so I'm switching to Maxxis. For what it's worth, they are made in Thailand, not China.

And Kumho is a Korean company. Not sure where they make their trailer tires, but I heard they were building a plant in Georgia.

I believe most Maxxis ST tires are made in Thailand.

Thailand is just a hoot and a holler down the road.

Not sure how to measure a "hoot" and a "holler" but Thailand is not China.
And, having been in both countries, quite different.

If your rims can handle 65lb. PSI the Kumho or Hankook mentioned above would be my first choice. If limited to 50lb. PSI, Maxxis would be my choice. I have both (Kumho and Maxxis on two different trailers) and I am happy with both.

Find the best price on-line for Maxxis M8008 then go to Discount Tires. Get a quote and if it's higher than the on-line price show them that price. They were higher, but then they beat the on-line price once I showed them it. They didn't stock the Maxxis M8008, but only took 2 days for them to get them in... After logging only 2300 miles on my C rated Trail Express, I went to D rated Maxxis and what a difference it made. I used to have a little sway, but with the Maxxis no sway and trailer sure pulls better.

Maxxis not available in load range "D" in 14". Still the "C" is a great tire.

Did you run them at 65PSI on your Surveyor rims without any problems? I was hesitant as that is a 30% overload on the "stated" rim capacity. Don't really believe you can blow out a rim???

Almost anybrand is okay, some better.....but the best thing is to follow complete tire care and inflation and speed recommendations....when you exceed speed of tire sidewall breaks down, when you do not inflate correctly either moving or sitting sidewall breaks down, uv breaks side wall down....make sure tire date is within 6 months of purchase date...or less....good luck only load ST to 85% if inflated to max

No, I had the Kumhos back in 2004 on a Casita, which came standard with Marathons, 14-inch C. Many on the Casita forum were switching because of so many blowouts with the Goodyears (which I think was mostly because of overloading).
They were saying at the time that unless the rims were marked otherwise, the 60 psi would not be a problem. I'm not sure what the Surveyor rims say, but I was told back in 2004 that you had to take the tires off to find out.
