No, I didn’t know that. How would I? He just said “portable” and I said I didn’t know what he was calling “portable”.

we probably both though you were just being a little sarcastic and sharing your own 'portable' with us, in light of the conversation - but alas, yes, you DO have a portable, just a different type! And I like it, my 1000.2 is portable, too, though mine mounts on a three-legged tripod... and yes, VERY portable, no matter 'how' you look at it!

I think campingworld has them on sale now, but we got ours at https://www.dishformyrv.com. they gave us a vet discount. At the time they were the cheapest.

You can get a directv receiver model H24 or HR24 both of which will accept directv HD Programming, and a King Quest satellite. Call King at 952-922-6889.

We don't have a satellite dish but we do have a Verizon tablet with it's own phone number ( 20/mo unlimited data). Phones of a few years ago were fitted with a method to mirror cast onto a smart TV but the current operating systems ( Im using Android so I can't be 100% sure of apple ) are less supportive. I picked of a memecast dongle from Best buy and had mixed success mirror casting to my TV. Amazon prime worked pretty well but Netflix cast some parts of the website but unfortunately not the visual of a movie.
People tend to get confused about all the various dongles such as Roku. These all REQUIRE a broadband connection to a WiFi router and will only connect to your phone if you make it a WiFi hotspot which at least on my plan is not unlimitied data and instead is very expensive data. I may again pick up mirror cast dongle which is WiFi independent. How it actually connects to your phone is some kind of electronic mystery. Now we watch movies on the smart pad with it's own phone number. The best one of those I believe is a Verizon iPad with it's own phone number but that's a lot of loot.

I go to my account on the app and activate them when we travel. You only pay for when thery are active. HD works all over the country. I call DISH when we arrive at a new location and the switch local channels for free. Note: if you have DISH at home your home will loose local channels if you do this.
If you have 2 tv’s one is master so the second one must watch a channel that’s on the sattlite the master is tuned to. Usually not a problem as most HD programming is on sattlite 129.
Wouldn’t have any other tv service, in the RV or at home.
One other thing to consider. Automatic domes only connect to 3 sattlites. Since Direct uses 5 and their HD is on ones the domes can’t connect to I suggest Direct is not an option.

I moved boxes (DISH)from home to RV for years. Then, last week, after about two hours I got a screen message that the box was out of area and TV blacked out. Next morning it came back for about an hour then sent the same message and blacked out. And BTW, Dish now seems to raise their rates $5-$10 a month.

yes, waybeck2018, we do ours very much the same - we do have a receiver we leave in the motorcoach for when we travel, but if it's a long trip with the whole family, I can bring the other two receivers from the house, since the motorcoach has 5 tvs(two in the bunks).
Since we have a 'regular' DISH home account, which actually started in our motorcoach when we were full-timing back from 2014-2016, we don't 'start' or 'stop' our service, but rather just move our receivers from the house to the rv, sometimes even split between the two.
If we are out of the Atlanta spot-beam 'local channels' area, which is itself quite expansive and covers most of GA, and many parts of nearby AL, TN, NC, and SC, we 'chat' on the DISH app and have them update the physical address to where we are to receive the 'local channels' from there, as well.
If I travel in the motorcoach, for business, and change the 'local channels' address, which is not very often, the family at home will lose the locals from Atlanta, though it doesn't really seem to bother them, anyway, since the wife really only watches everything OTHER than local channels : )
(and the boys continue watching their phones and computers!)
If I know we are going for an extended trip, and will be parked at a rv park or campground or resort for more than several days, I may even bring the extra 1000.2 'open faced' manual dish so that all three receivers can watch what they want. Otherwise, our KingTailgater2 portable seems to cover most of the basis we really need, as watching multiple TVs is not that often, anyway.

The best setup I have found(although not auto aiming) is a tripod with a 1000.2 dish and a Vip222K receiver from Dish. You would have to find the receiver on Ebay. It is a dual tuner that feeds two tv's and lets each tv watch whatever they want independent of what the other tv is tuned to. With the Dish pointer app it's almost as quick as automatic. If you can't find a 222k, there is a 622 and 722k both with dvr and dual tuner. All three are discontinued by dish to get away from the dual tuners and charge you more for the wallys.

Yep, as formerfr explained, local channels are spot beamed and if you get outside that spot (roughly 200 miles), you just call and change the address for the locals in your new area. We do it all the time. Usually just give them the new zip code.
If your bill is changing, that tells me either you are changing things, or your contract has expired. Call up Dish and ask for a customer retention specialist. I did a few months ago, and they upgraded the hopper system at my house to the newest version (for free), and lowered the price substantially for the same channel package. Of course I am now in a new contract, but that's ok with me.
Give them a call, you might be as pleasantly surprised as I was

this is true, at first we actually also had one of these Vip222k 'dual' tuner receivers, which allowed a single receiver to drive TWO different TVs, each having their own channels and remote.
What we found as an issue, though, was the need to have the receiver placed somewhere that both remotes could easily reach, so we later just changed to two different Vip211k receivers instead, though the original device worked just fine with the 1000.2 manual antenna.

FormerFR
Could you possibly not have had your 2nd remote switched to RF rather than IR? Radio frequency does not have to have line of sight with receiver but IF does. Also the tuner must have the little antenna on the back to receive the RF signal.

I just spoke with Directv the other day and I asked about them not supporting SD after April 2019. They assured me that as of now they will still be broadcasting in SD and told me that if they didn’t support it any longer that they would upgrade my satellite for my camper free of charge. Even though it’s a satellite that I bought from a different manufacturer

I understand that you will just need an HD receiver. A tech at King said that I could use any of Directv's HD models numbered 24 or lower with my King Quest VQ 4100. The old SD receivers will not work when they switch over to HD broadcasting only.

I use the Winegard Pathway X2 automatic antenna with a 211Z receiver from Dish network which I take from home and receive all of the channels that I receive from home without any phone calls or extra fees .

I have directv and I know I can use my receiver from home and it wouldn’t cost me anything extra. I’m just trying to figure out what portable dish will work best for me..lol

we just pulled into a campground, Monte Sano State Park, on the mountain east of Huntsville - dark, foggy, and trees all in the 'way' of the satellites - oh well, I'll try anyway. Put the portable on the top rear of the coach, and though it took longer than 'normal' to scan the satellites, it picked up sat 110 even 'thru' the trees....nice.
I think sometimes we just 'assume' that you can't do certain things because people say it 'won't work', or it's just 'impossible'.... nada. Enjoy, at least some channels : )

You must not camp very far from home otherwise you would lose the local major and other local broadcast channels (Little Rock/Pine Bluff/Carlisle). Typically about 200 miles from home channel originating broadcasts will render them not viewable on Dish (they will show up on the channel guide and if selected will not be viewable). It could be greater than 200 miles at times but eventually you will be out of range for dish to provide them to you. You then will have to contact (phone) Dish to add the new channels for that new location to the channel guide. When you get back home you will again have to contact Dish to have your home local channels restored. This procedure only affects home channels and not the other channels that will be available no matter how far you venture from home.

King Pro
I have the King Pro and have had no issues with the King Pro. Sets up easily...and have used it in inclement weather with no issues. Have used it for both DirectV (SD) and also DishNetwork.
