Angry To go or not to go? Dang government!

I'm not sure what to do right now. We were planning on going camping at CGNHP, but not sure what to do. If this stupid government shuts down, then National Parks shut down too. I'm not a huge fan of getting there, getting set up then told ...... oh wait.... we are closed... GO HOME!

I wouldn't go unless there are acceptable alternatives nearby. It looks like a shutdown is likely.

Go Anyway, If the govt shuts down and they come and ask you to leave remind them that they are now off the payroll and should be going home themselves. Your equipped to stay in the campground they are not and so what if you can not buy a candy bar in their little store.
But really where did you read or see that they would close, there are a lot of federal parks that are self serve, I would think that they allow the campgrounds to remain open, just no enhanced services. Then again I may be wrong, but I'd still go.

The last time they had a shutdown, they put the gate bars down and turned folks away. Try turning a 5th wheel or Class A around on some of those entrance roads. Traffic was lined up for miles.

Folks who were already camped were rounded up and told they had to leave. Rangers have guns now. Speak kindly to them, they are not getting paid and are irritable.

The shutdown could be for weeks (maybe months!) Plan alternates and stay flexible. State parks are gonna be crowded.

How does the shutdown work? I realize it is non essential services, but do the employees get employment insurance? I would think this will be hard on the people told to go home.

Hard? How about our troops in combat not getting paid. No option to go home; no money to pay the rent or mortgage; wife and kids wondering how they are going to cope. Yea, as "essential employees" they will get back pay someday, but the mortgage company won't much care about that.

No unemployment insurance for non-essential federal workers because they are not unemployed; just un-compensated. Besides there is a waiting week.

Sorry for the ignorance about it, didn't mean to offend anyone.I have just never seen it in Canada as is apparent when we have to vote in a non confidence. Back to the poles in less then 3 years again.
you think there would be a provision in the legislation for government employees to miss the mortgage payments while the government was in shut down, after all it was taxpayers dollars that saved them.

If I remember right, the military is paid on the 1st and 15th, so if the government can reach an agreement by the 14th, our great service people shouldn't miss out on a paycheck.

Sorry Dude, not mad at you. Just frustrated with the system that's all.
Our "elected leaders" play politics while the citizenry suffer the consequences.

There is no provision in any law I know about that provides anything like benefits during a shutdown. Heck there is never supposed to BE a shutdown of government. The only time it happens is when we spend more than the debt ceiling and we hit it 6 months into the year.

God help us next year! We are shaping up again to have no budget come 1 October. If the politicos decide not to pass a continuing resolution to fund next year at this years levels we will have no parks again in the Fall.

I can understand the frustration. We get to vote again may 2nd because of budget conflicts.we need a majority government up here or nothing gets done. the parties are always doing what's best for them not the people.we have had a minority government for a little while now, that's frustrating.

You are right. (actually the end of the month and the 15th) But I predict they won't reach a compromise anytime soon. Each side is rubbing their hands in glee because they each believe the other will get the blame for a prolonged shutdown.

They have their eye on the prize; the 2012 elections.

I will be shocked if there is an eleventh hour compromise. Both sides have dug in their heels pushing FOR a shutdown. One because they believe they were elected to cut borrowing not increase it; and the other because they truly believe the budget cutters will take it the neck if the government does shut down.

Politicians and divorce lawyers.... what a crock, either way the good guy gets screwed, republican, democrat either way.... just like the government letting 3rd world countries control our economy and allowing the gas prices to soar, that's what kicked off our recession yet now we are in a more brittle economic status today than the last time gas hit $4. Sorry to vent...

go camping, especially if you are a government worker.... just think, you might not have to be to work anyway

I see a bipartisan backed bill to pay our troops, while not paying congress and the President (and cabinet), will be vetoed by the President.

Yes, on looking back, I should report my own post,
Not only did I hijack the thread,

I am skirting with "politics"!

Tried not to pull it one way or the other, except to show the total stupidity of it all.

I think I will stop now.

If they spent their time addressing the problems at hand instead of trying to make each other look bad they'd never get into the situations they find themselves in. But it's not them that ever suffers from their political games.

Just read the gates at all Nation Parks will close at 12:01am the day of the shut-down and the campers will have to vacate within 24-hours. All Park Police will remain on duty to protect government assetes and be sure everyone leaves within the 24-hour dead line.
