Toilet argument
Ok, so I’m probably going to open a can of worms...
We got a Flagstaff MicroLite recently. It came with a Dometic 300 toilet. The toilet is high profile (18”) and seemingly completely plastic. It’s squeaky as all get out. It’s also situated right under a very large, deep cabinet, which is the (inside) upper area of our outdoor kitchen, if you follow. It’s where we store our clothes and towels.
Here’s the argument: my husband says I shouldn’t stand on the toilet to access the cabinet because the toilet isn’t meant to hold the entire weight of a person. I say we need a more sturdy toilet (i.e. porcelain with a wood seat) that I can stand on, since the current toilet seat is thin plastic and feels like I’ll break through if I’m not careful to stand on the outside edges. FYI, I’m somewhere between 150 Lbs and 175 Lbs. (closer to 150, but I’m not going to say )
I cannot access most of the cabinet without standing on something and DH is saying that we should bring along a painters stand to put over the toilet when I need to access the cabinet. I say there’s no space to bring one or set it up. You can’t leave it over the toilet either because you wouldn’t be able to use the toilet with a painters stand over it!
So what do you all think? Who’s right?

I think I would simply replace the lid with a more sturdy on.

Checked with Dometic. They said that there is no replacement lid for the 300 series. I sure would have liked to put the slow close wood they sell on it, but any sturdier lid would have been fine.

I think I have seen a mod somewhere related to putting a standard seat/lid on those 300 series toilets.

To be honest, I don't know which model I have. But I know I've replaced the toilet seat twice, with OTC seats from Lowe's.
But I wouldn't stand on the toilet. We have a step stool for all the places we can't reach.

Hey hun, could you get me a towel from above the toilet.....
Sure dear.

Swap out the toilet. Less expensive than an ER trip.

There is honestly no room for a step stool. Hence the painter’s stand suggestion.

I make it a hard and fast policy - never get involved in another couple's "Toilet Argument".

Is your husband handy, have him build you a stool that fits over the toilet with a hinged lid and the just get a small fold up stool to step up.

But so many people refer to them as “The stool”.

This looks like a simple solution.
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...-a-148297.html
The poster didn't solve using the wooden seat lid issue but I don't know why a solution couldn't be macgyver'd together. Just wander around a good hardware store and look to see what might work. May need to cut/trim/add to the seat lid or cobble together some sort of hinge pin.
In reality, just installing a new toilet would probably be easier.

Correction: It's "the throne". The stool is what goes into it.

Personally I would never recommend standing on a toilet neither in the camper or at home.

I have a 320. Replaced the lid with a slow closed solid one. $40 I think.
