Toilet paper-rv vs regular
Hey folks,
Does anyone have any thoughts on tp? What's the purpose of a special rv paper, is it any better than regular toilet paper for the system?

Take a couple or three sheets of what you use at home.
Place them in a jar with some water and let it sit for a few minuets.
Did the paper start to break down yet?
If so then it will work fine in your RV.
Use the stuff from Costco, no wall of paper yet.

Just don't put paper in the system. Why chance it. We use a small trash can for paper.

Like Ford Idaho said, put some in a jar half full of water. Put the lid on and shake it up. If the paper disintegrates you are good to go. Our home paper works fine. I think it is Scotts Extra Soft or something like that.

"RV" toilet paper was simply created by some master salesperson who took the cheapest 1 ply toilet paper, rebranded it as "RV" toilet paper and charged a whole lot more for it.

Charmin Ultra Mega Rolls. Same as at home. It breaks down till it's not even visible when dumping. I do use a small amount of treatment (enzyme) between dumps. Yes, as stated, the mason jar will tell the tale. Put what ever tissue you are wanting to use in the jar with water, lid it and shake a few times. If it readily breaks up go for it. To me the sewer system installed in todays MH's allows for use of home products (over priced, dedicated, single ply RV TP is not a home product) and the stretched reasoning for not putting the used tissue where it belongs just doesn't make sense to me. Other types of RV's may dictate the use of such products but to me, it is not necessary in your Berkshire or my Georgetown. If done properly, the dumping process using the provided cleanout system gets rid of all residual waste. I'm sure this controversy will continue forever more.

For 30 years we have used household TP . No problems yet . WOW , using a trash can , got more guts than I do !

In the October issue of Consumer Reports they did a study of toilet paper for septic systems. Finishing third overall but rated best for septic systems was Scott extra soft because of how well it disintegrated.
The worst in disintegration were the two quilted Northern brands they tested and also all three Charmin brands.
Just FYI take it for what it's worth.

Scott's TP, at home and in the camper.
A home septic, sewer system, and toilet system in a camper are all designed to handle TP. Putting it anywhere else is unsanitary and careless. If you don't know how to handle your system there are lessons you can take.

You can use regular potty paper just make sure it's 1 ply stuff. the 2 ply will be more likely to build up and cause problems. One good rule to remember is use plenty of water to keep from building up a plug in the tank.
1 ply any brand will work fine.

Been putting tp in a small waste basket for years with no ill effects. No problems with black tank either.

The thing I don't get is why go to the trouble of putting the tp in a wast basket when you don't have too. I have yet to see someone in one of these discussions have an issue with tp if they use lots of water and wait till the tanks is at least 3/4 full before dumping.

I have always used RV toilet paper. I was told to, other wise your water tank indicator will stop working. Well it still happened. We completely drain the black and the indicator shows 1/3.
