Tornado hit campground in Michigan (Birch Run)

We had some wacky weather in Michigan last night. Not sure if this was posted elsewhere.

Wow this kind of hits home for us. We stayed at that RVResort a month ago. Very nice grounds with lots of trees. we have stayed there a couple of times. We where going to stay there two weeks ago as well on our way north. Called late and got the answering machine so stayed down the road in Frankenmuth instead.

We had a tornado hit Woodhaven campground last night in northen Illinois. Think it was from the same storm.

My sister and her husband have stayed there before and we were considering a a 2 night stay next month. Not sure what/how long cleanup and repair will take?

Pine Ridge is only about an hour from us. We stay there 3 to 4 times a season for a long weekend getaway. The cleanup should only take a few days. They allowed remaining campers to stay there if they wished.
Every time I left a message, they have called me back, usually within an hour.

How many folks carry one of the small, battery powered weather radios with them in the RV? I take the batteries out when in the driveway at home, but put them in when we head out and just set it out on the nightstand when we're stopped. It goes off automatically with weather alerts, etc. A lot of cell phones do the same thing now if you turn on the capability, but they're usually not enough to wake me up. Cheap price to pay for the added security of a little notification!

We have' fortunately, "dodged the bullet" several times when camping in our pop-ups. twice in Michigan and northern Wisconsin. One time, I woke to feel the camper leaving the ground, and then setting down again. It did this several times, while other family were asleep. I didn't wake them right off because there was no where to run. In the morning, we discovered that the camper had been relocated about six feet from where we had parked it.
Another time, we beat a storm to a campground in Wisconsin, but had to sit in the car and wait out a driving rain. when the storm passed, we discovered that a 5th-wheel unit, brand-new and never slept in, had acquired a blue spruce--upside down, through the roof and floorboards. It was a total loss, but I hope insured. We do carry a weather radio now, one with a crank so that we don't need batteries or sunlight.

Pine Ridge is our favorite campground. We camp there several times a year. How can you beat shopping at the Birch Run Outlet Mall, followed by a chicken dinner in Frankenmouth?

Notwithstanding the storm, Pine Ridge is usually very quiet. Joy and I are glad that nobody was seriously injured and the campground should be back to normal in short order.
