Tornado Warning

This morning we had a tornado warning here, luckily we were not camping. This got me thinking, what do folks do camping during a tornado warning. How do you get notified? Do most campers use a weather radio? Smart Phone? If you are alerted where do you go? Inside the bath house if there is one close?
Has anyone actually had this experience?

Noaa now sends all severe alerts to all smart phones if you have one.
I'm not to sure its not all cellular devices.

Our camper has a weather radio built in.

We actually had tornado sirens go off at the goshen rally last week.
We all headed to storm shelters!

I ALWAYS carry my Midland Model HH54 weather radio with me in Tornado country and sleep with it on by the bed.

Every campground I have stayed at has the shelter location in their brochure somewhere (ask if it does not). Bath Houses are usually the locations.

If you hear the sirens (GO TO THE SHELTER!)
DO NOT WAIT - DO NOT LOOK TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE IS GOING - GO!

If you need to leave your pets - leave your camper UNLOCKED.

Its true I seen lou with his portable midland weather radio.
Ps I was keeping near him to get the low down minute by minute when the tornado sirens went off in goshen.

We also had a Tornado and Flash Flood warning this morning (before sunrise). Our Verizon cell phone service sends automatic text message warnings to our cell phones. It knows exactly where your cell phones are located at that moment (home, traveling, camping, etc.) and sends the appropriate warning for that area. These text messages first appeared on our cell phones in April and it asked if we would like to receive these types of messages in the future - of course we said yes since we do quite a bit of traveling. And no extra charges on our bill!!

The we'll quickly contemplate what choices we have to evacuate and / or survive.

Head to the shelter at the campground, haven't found one yet in Tornado country that didn't have one.
As mentioned above, usually it is one of the bath houses.
I have seen a tornado up close and personal and will say without any hesitation, DON'T WAIT!

Earlier this year we had just checked into Sylamore Creek CG in Mountain View, AR; set up the satellite dish and tuned to The Weather Channel only to learn a tornado was headed directly toward us. I went to the CG office and asked what plans they had for a tornado and was told "I'm heading home to the storm shelter". We gathered our medicines, laptops, papers and a couple of days clothes and headed to the local Walmart. The store was closed for business but we were welcomed to take shelter in a corner of the building where the employee lounge was located. The manager provided bottled water, snacks and frequent updates on the status of the approaching tornado. It missed us by a few miles, but did considerable damage to some of the surrounding area. IMHO...I would seek shelter somewhere other than a bath house at the CG...somewhere more public where emergency services would be more readily available.

Tornado wants you, it'll get you. You can't hide.

But it'd be nice to at least know how far it was from me, and not get warnings from the Weather Porn TV Folks with info that's useless.

EVERY TV weatherman in America gives warnings by County. That's the most useless info to a traveler, and usually even to residents, that ever existed. WHY DO THEY DO THAT?

Do YOU know every county in YOUR state? DO YOU?
