Actual Cash Value is all he can expect at best unless he has a rider to cover what he owes on it. If not and he has 40K ins on a 20K rv he will only get 20.

We live in Texas and store our RV at a storage facility. We were required to prove we had coverage on the RV when signing the lease with the storage facility.

The most likely scenario is that his insurance company will pay the loss and if the storage facility is at fault they will subrogate the loss and go after the storage company's insurance (or owner if uninsured).

Bought a Rockwood Popup summer of '13. Labor Day '14, it's sitting on the street outside my townhome neighborhood, and gets demolished by a drunk driver. We had Full replacement through Progressive. They ended up writing a check for the purchase price (incl taxes). And then they did the separate payment for personal belongings. (That was fun to itemize).

So I would say it depends greatly on what the coverage stipulates and which insurance company.

I stored my jet skis in this location last year, and ALMOST stored my brand new toy hauler there this year, but thank God he wanted too much money. The contract you sign with the storage place clearly states they do not insure your property. Along with RVs there was classic cars, boats and who knows what else in there. A lot of heart broken people in the Buffalo area this week, the place was HUGE, so who knows how many units were in there.

X2. On the "fun to itemize " quote, what I did was put all the RV purchase related items, bedding, flashlights, etc. receipts, in a seperate folder from the get go. Learned that when a relative suffered a total loss on their unit, and spent forever racking their brains on what the heck was in there.

To all those forum members who suffered a loss, our hearts go out to you all.
Lets make this a positive thing, please report back on how your insurance company treated you. It would be a great help to find out who to go with in the future.

Thanks for all the responses!

My friend hasn't told me that there is a problem, so I'm guessing he is OK.

Polishdon, good on you that you went somewhere else... you are right, there will be a lot of disappointed people around town.
