When doing the math, I have four tires rated at 2,100 each for a total of 8,400. With an empty trailer weight of 6,950, 350 pounds worth of water and roughly 300 pounds worth of "stuff", that puts me at a total weight of 7,600. Minus 800 pounds for tongue weight and we are at 6,800 pounds. Certainly well below the 8,400 rating but that does not change the fact that multiple forums seem to decry original equipment tires. Individual reports of multiple failures on the same trip and a dearth of "I've been running years on my OEM tires." leads me to believe the immediate need is new tires over TPMS.

What little research I have done so far also seems to lean toward Goodyear Maxxis over Marathon.

Blackhat: thanks. Not sure what happened there. I tried copy-paste, editing the URL, etc. to no avail. Recent links worked. I appreciate the extra effort there.

QUESTION: As my rims are 15" and I'm not looking to replace them, if I were able to find load range E tires in the correct size, is it worth it? Likely making 6-10 short trips per year and hopefully one longer one of around 1,000 - 1,200 miles round trip.

Thanks all for your patience as I figure this out and try to learn from the experiences of you all.
Agin there are NO Goodyear Maxxis! Youroo!!

Thanks. That is most helpful. If they have it in a 225/75R15 that sounds good. A little higher can't hurt. Not like I am worried about ride quality back there, eh?

Ahh, my bad. I misunderstood some of the postings. Thank you for clearing that up. Probably saved me some dumb looks at the tire shop.

(See disclaimer about being new. lol)

Here's the link showing the E-load in your size. Ignore the price...that's retail and everyplace sells them for much less.

hmm, closest dealer is about two hours away. Appears I can get them for $133 each with free shipping. Will need to check what install and balance would run.

I don't think you have to go to a listed Maxxis dealer. The shop I deal with sells a lot of Maxxis tires but is not a listed dealer. They, like most independent tire dealers, can order just about any brand they want. Check with your closest independent and see if they can order them.

Tow max tires. I had 11k miles 2 years old. Checked each day. Week be4 trip i I see funny bulge on one. Further check two aware bulged, one is cracked severely. Chase down Tow max warranty lady sunning herself in Palm beach gardens, she gives me $144 on two tires, all checked by local dealer. Best I could
Get, just put 4 Maxxis on and good to go.

Just so I don't unintentionally mislead anyone with my "think before you type" errors, there ARE NO GOODYEAR MAXXIS TIRES! I made a boo boo.
Maxxis are Maxxis.

I think what you intended originally is Goodyear/Maxxis, with the / meaning and or or. Sometimes it's hard to say what one intends to say when using a keyboard.

Yep! After you reach 70 years old, sometimes what starts out in your head, never reaches your mouth or fingers exactly as it started out.
