Mike. I hope these tires will serve you well. I would agree that you have had more than enough drama with tires. I would also agree with you that in all likelihood my tires are Chineese products. I will continue to check them at every stop and hope they don't "bomb" on me. Enjoy your FL Keys trip. Merry Christmas.

Akuret Junk

Ditto on these! "HAD" to replace set as three tread separations found on the same trip. They made it right at 10,000 miles in 3+ years and suddenly found rubbing together on one side with bulge on other single. Only the spare and one on the ground were still round when replaced.

Traded that trailer for lighter rig and will go Carlisle 15 E range on this one before I destroy something.

I don't know that Hercules tires are as good or better than most other brands. I have a feeling that they are one of the best of the worst, but not good.
The only reason for the Akurets that I just replaced is we blew out 4 TowMax on the way down to the Keys last year and finding the tire of your choice in the FL Keys is a joke. We took what we could get at the time and spent a fortune for them.
This year, we are headed down [450 miles] to the Keys with 4 new Hercules LREs on the ground and two Hercules spares. It's going to be a white-knuckle adventure and I'm getting too old for all this.
No options on upgrading to 16' wheels. Wheel wells won't handle it.

I think all st tires are made in China and where they are made in is not the problem, who made them is the problem. I think there is a difference in what companies make them, I think some companies just want to make a quick profit. The Westlake tires seem like good tires, I never had a problem with them. On the Cedar Creek that I have now has Goodyear tires G614 and made in America.

My old fiver had Bridgestones made in tiwan and they were on there until I bought the new trailer. Before I got rid of old trailer I put new axle on to raise trailer to fit new truck. Used old axle and wheels on a Hydraulic Dump trailer I built and still going strong. Now what amazes me is the fact they are over 35 years old! New trailer had 1 blow out 15 miles away from where I was at 45 miles and hour and only 1 year old.

Previous horse trailer...4,500 miles with 4 TowMax failures and 6 Maxxis failures. The next 15,000 miles with Goodyear 614...not a single problem and they still look almost new.

Put 12K miles on my Hercules power STR tires in the first 18 months of ownership. 450 miles is nothing to worry about.

Just bought a new 5er and I refused to leave the lot or buy it unless they changed out the ST tires for LT tires. We do lots of traveling and most is at 65-70 mph. For the last 8 years with a 5er and never a problem with tires. If you own a 5er with 6000 lb axles change now to LT tires but if you have 7000 lb axles you need G rated tires. If your trailer weighs lest then 10k lbs you may be ok with ST tires if you keep your speeds under 60 mph.... Just do a search on line and you will find many posts on this subject....

My wheels are 15''. The options for 15" tire are very limited. 16" wheels have lots of options. I'm now riding on 4 Hercules with two Hercules spares. The Akurets are now stacked in the garage ....where they belong.mad:
The insurance estimate for the blowout damage just came in at $1,900. It's being repaired as I speak.

I have over 7k miles on my Westlake original equip tires on a Rockwood 2703ws. We have had one tire go bad and replaced by FR under warranty. This includes the 2900 mile trip to the FR rally in August. I am crossing my fingers to get 1000 more miles on two upcoming trips before we trade for a Motorhome in February.

Love the trailer but these tires scare the wife.

I upgraded to Tow Max E rated 10 ply tires on my 829FKSS Flagstaff 4 years and about 5000 miles ago and have not had a single problem. They still look new with no sign of distortion or bulging. I do admit that these are several ratings higher than what the factory put on and I am a fanatic about taking care of them.. The Carlisles from the factory self destructed in about 2 years. I had the same problem on My previous Sunline in the same time frame. The factory just puts on the bare minimum tire required to handle the load. Heat is out biggest enemy.

You would think ALL RV manufacturers would be most concerned about safety more than anything else, but not so or they would spend the small extra dollar to install one load range higher tires than base minimum to get them out the door. I believe it will catch up with them sooner or later. It isn't just FR. Somebody has to lead the way out of this practice.

Thanks. I need the support. I'm told they are the best of the worst as there are not a lot of options for 15" wheels and 16" will not fit in wheel wells. I guess I'll just deal with it. My tire guy says he will stand behind them and I know where he lives AND his home phone #.

If you want to know where your tires come from, check the DOT code on the sidewall. The first two numbers/letters indicate the maker and factory location.
Tire DOT Plant Codes – Sorted by Plant Code - Tire Safety Group
I count 47 different tire companies coming out of the Shandong China plant. Hercules an Akuret are just two.

I plan to drive and see the country for the next 5 years and these Goodyear G614 that I have on my Cedar Creek will last that long.

Off topic just a little bit but do you multiply the weight of what each tire says to get the total weight that the camper can carry
