TPMS Question
Hello,
I would like to get some input from others who use a TPMS.
I have had my camper for a little over a year now. I finally got a TST TPMS. We had our first trip with it this past weekend. I was looking to get some feedback on the below numbers, PSI and Temp, It all seemed rather good, but I would love to hear from more experienced travelers if these numbers sound or appear to be accurate. Not ever having one of these system, I don't have anything from which to compare.
Not sure if this matter, but the current tires size is ST185/80R13 on a single axle. Cold inflated to 65 psi. On the way home, we had mostly sunny sky's with an ambient temp outside of 79 degrees. So on this 3 hrs drive both wheels basically averaged a PSI of 70-72 degrees with a temp of 88-92 degrees. Most of the drive was on highways with speeds around 60-63 mph.
Thanks in advance,
Mark

In my sprinter cold pressure is 65 psi. My TMPS setting 58 low and 85 high. It was reading 79-80 psi in hot day. As long as it stay in between high and low setting than you are safe. Mine has running this way since August.

Your temperatures sound about right. I have a Schrader system I use on my toad dolly, two sensors in the dolly wheels, two sensors in the rear wheels of the car.
These are internal sensors, not the valve stem typs.
On a recent trip in Arizona, coming down a long grade, we had a tire temperature alarm on the dolly, it was approaching 200 deg (115 outside air temp). After stopping, letting stuff cool, I discovered I had a brake caliper that was hanging and dragging on the dolly.
The other tire temps would hang around 20 - 30 degrees above the outside temperature.

I will often see an 8-10 pound rise in psi and temps of 90-95 or even 100 on very hot days. The tires on the sun side are always a couple degrees warmer.

Sweet. Just wanted to see if what I was seeing was normal. Now I know. I was rolling through that bad rain in Delaware on Thursday and noticed the tire getting hit with the rain was a lot cooler. Pretty cool.. Anyway, now time to get ready to do some cold weather camping. Gotta love it😀
Thx again

I can't remember the exact temp. But I recently read a Michelin study that said 180-185 I believe with the max temp when tires fail. I'm sore Tireman can give more details. The TST 507 has preset temp at 158.

Most tires fail at 150 degrees and above, that is why TST presets there temps between 150 and 185 if I remember right, but you can change that if you want but I'll stick with what they suggest....

Good answers. Set at 140 and keep an eye out after that.

I have the two dolly tires (10 inch wheels) set to alarm if pressure drops below 75, or the temperature goes above 170.
The two rear tires on the toad (16 inch wheels) are set to alarm if pressure drops below 28, or the temperature goes above 150.

this is the set I use, Tire Minder 10 wheel because my truck is a dooly it works great. I allows you to set parameters per tire and is good about giving warnings. the only problem is you need to mark which one goes to which tire. when I went to get a couple tires changed last time the tire guy put them back on in reverse. lesson learned, I mapped and labeled each tire and marked each sensor appropriately. overall I like the set. I got mine at camping world.

a little history;
"The wheelbase length was extended to 117.5 in (2,985 mm) for the short wheelbase pickups, and 131.5 in (3,340 mm) for the long wheelbase pickups. A new dual rear wheel option called "Big Dooley" was introduced on one-ton pickups, along with a new Crew Cab option on the 164.5 in (4,178 mm) wheelbase. An optional Elimipitch camper was made available for the Big Dooley. [26] Crew Cabs were available in two versions: a "3+3" which seated up to six occupants and "bonus cab" which deleted the rear seat and added rear lockable storage in its place
The Rounded-Line generation ultimately ran for a lengthy 15 model years (1973–1987) with the exception of the Crew Cab (four-door cab), Blazer, Jimmy, and Suburban versions, which continued up until the 1991 model year. GM ends this generation with 1987 as 1987 was the last model year for the conventional cabs (two-door cab)."

So as you can see "Dooley or Big Dooley" are correct in this case.

In the 1970s but not today. The proper term is dually. As in dual tires. Not dool tires.

you might be partially right, not today. this history however DOES apply to my 1981 GMC 3500 Sierra Classic Camper Special DOOLEY. AND IT IS A SPECIAL TERM TO REFER TO THE TRUCK.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE FORUM RULES.
prior to answering this or trying to correct this please research the FACTS. I am sure you will learn that in this case MY TRUCK iS CALLED THE "BIG DOOLEY"

Dooley... Google returns 15,300,000+ results with the first 100 referencing nothing about tires or wheels or trucks.
Dually... Google returns 8,000,000+ results with the first 100 referencing nothing about also meaning dooley.
Wait... I think I hear someone singing...
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley... (or insert Dually)
Hang down your head and cry...
I've got me a big ol' pick-up
with 4 rear tires that are stiff 10 ply.

I AM NOT HERE TO ARGUE WITH ANYONE. I know what I own and the history behind it. I do not have to prove anything to anyone. If you are so determined to argue, argue with history, NOT ME.
try googling "1981 3500 Sierra Classic Camper Special Dooley history" see what you find. shoot it took me less than a minute to find it on Wikipedia, must not be to knowledgeable if you haven't found it yet. I tried to help you, now you are on your own.

The site team is hoping we don't have to close a good thread because of a couple of
...
members arguing over 'dooley' vs. 'dually'.
