Trade in and delivery
Is it normal for your dealer to take your trade in prior to delivery of your new one?

I'm not sure - seems like it is something to be dealt with between the dealer and the buyer of the new unit.
If everything is in writing, I probably wouldn't have a problem dropping off my trade in before I picked up my new one if it wasn't too cumberson on my part - too far to the dealer, etc.
ymmv.

We dropped our trade in at the dealer the same day we picked up the new one.
And were camping 15 minutes later!

We took in our old trailer unhitched it and hitched up the new one. The dealer told us to go ahead and use the old trailer until the new one comes in...........and that is how it worked out, no problems.

My dealer never saw my trade before the delivery, had me park it in the back corner of his lot, and never even looked inside while we were there. I know that they didn't look at it until afterward, because they called me up three days later because I had locked the doors, and forgotten to give them the keys, so they called for them.....

If the dealer wanted our trade-in before our new one was ready, it would probably be because he pre-sold it. I'd be OK with that, but I'd want some "consideration" from him...

Something similar happened to us. After all of the paperwork was done and the PDI, I asked the guy giving us our walk thru where to park my old trailer; he said park it over there and back up to your new trailer. Never looked at the outside and definately never looked at the inside.

I'm not talking about financial consideration. I made the deal and accepted $XX,XXX for my trade. But face it, I'm doing him a favor by providing a unit that he can sell - and get his money - earlier than he had anticipated.
You alwayns need new "stuff" to outfit your new unit. I think I'd ask (only half jokingly) if he would trade me some free stuff, like sewer hoses, tire covers, or so forth from his parts department, in exchange for delivering my trade-in to him early.

I played hard ball on what they allowed me on the Trade In, AFTER we negotiated a price on the new unit. The dealer did not initially know that I had a trade. We arrived at a tentative figure, based on what I told him about the unit, but did not finalize the deal until his buyer came out to look at the trade in.
The Trade In is still sitting in my Ag Building, awaiting the arrival of the unit I ordered.
For nine years we full timed, and you haven't lived until you move directly from one unit to another. 2X8s between the door steps to walk from one unit to the other, and took us about a day.
What ever way you go, good luck.

Our dealer didn't lay eyes on our trade-in until we arrived to pick up the new 5er. When he asked me what kind of condition it was in, when we were making the deal, I told him the truth and never thought another thing about it. Not that anyone would stretch the truth!

Exactly, I have nothing to hide what so ever. It's just that the trade is like cash in a sense. And normally you don't pay for something you do not yet have.

That's awesome!
If (when?) we get a new rig, that's definitely how the new one is getting loaded.

I work for a dealer, and generally it depends on the situation, but we are generally happy to work with whatever. It doesn't really matter unless we have big doubts about the trade in and it's condition, but we generally have an idea of what condition it's in and know it's value. I know that with trade ins we're able to "play" with the number and sometimes even lose some money on the value of the trade, but count it has worth it because we are selling a new unit (I think it works something like that). And I'm actually only talking from observation and what I see as I'm not the actually sales guy...they call me the "Internet Guy" lol
