Trailer theft? What to use?

What type of lock is best for a 5er? I store mine in the back yard area with privacy fence. But during the camping season I leave it in front driveway. Is putting the level legs down enough, or do I need a kingpin lock? What's everyone using

I have an Anderson hitch, so I have the Anderson block bolted to my king pin. That an insurance is enough for me.

I too store my 5er in my yard behind a privacy fence, but just to be on the safe side I use a king pin lock.

Seeing how my truck is only used for towing I just park the truck in front of camper. Later RJD

Could do like i've seen done with portable traffic signs. Just jack up one side, put jack stands under frame, and remove tires on one side. Store tires in garage until ready to use trailer.

There are now wheel immobilizers available in several price ranges that offer a challenge to anyone who wants to tow your trailer off. Here are a couple

I've seen this one and when not used to protect trailer it was stored on the spare.

More expensive but it covers just about every possible way one could move the trailer especially removing a wheel with an immobilizer on it and using your own spare.

Just a thought but if one is worried about a travel trailer being stolen from their front driveway have you considered moving to a safer neighborhood?

No I haven't considered moving , it's not that bad here. Just looking for some peace of mind . I was thinking about just putting down the automatic leveling system , front and back . I dont think they can pull it away with 4 hydraulic legs with weight on them.

I store my TT in the backyard right next to the rifle and pistol range. Never had anyone bother any of my stuff in the yard. The neighbor also has a rifle range visible through the trees.
On the road, I lock the hitch and put a cable through a wheel and around the axle. You can't stop a professional thief, you can only slow down a theft of opportunity. With my battery powered angle grinder I can remove anything you lock to your 5r in under 30 seconds.

I dont think you can cut the hydraulic ram legs in in less than 30 seconds has there are 4 of them, and if you did the camper would fall on its nose. And I think I asked in the original post, what are people using for 5ers not tt

If someone really wants to steal your RV, they will.

Our friends stored their TT behind their companies 8' chain link fence with razor wire and locked gates. The TT was actually chained to a security light pole. Stolen. Found 3 months later in a town 4 hours away being used as a meth lab.

We used to use a wrap around king pin lock, but stopped years ago. Everybody thinks our Sidewinder hitch is broken anyway when we turn it sideways while parked

How do you turn it? I have the reese revolution hitch with the wedge installed. I have never tryed to move that hitch by hand because I didn't know I could. I thought they were to stiff to move without being hooked up to the truck.

I take my Sidewinder apart once a year to clean and grease the bearing plates. Then re- torque to specs. My 120lb wife can turn the hitch by hand. Not easily, but she gets it done.

The revolution is built slightly different having a castellated nut at the bottom of the spindle/turret instead of four bolts and a cap plate at the top of the turret like a sidewinder. But most of the revolutions I have seen you can turn by hand, some not.

I believe they will all turn by hand with proper maint.

Insure adequately and relax. As someone who suffered thru a vehicle theft, I find that you simply cannot prevent someone from taking your stuff if they really want it.

All you can do is decide how much you are willing to pay (in locks, security systems, etc) to make them work for it.

We currently have a 10 foot snow drift behind ours. Would take quite a bit of effort to have access to it...LOL Most thieves don't have that much ambition...
