trailer winterization

first travel trailer purchase ever, FLT21FBRS ultralite, & would like some tip or insight to winterize. Live in Colorado mtns @ 8000 ft so fairly cold during winter months. Have been to FR site & reviewed video incredibly helpful.

Do you subscribe to blowing H2O lines out & filling traps, toilet etc with RV antifreeze or pumping RV antifreeze throughout system?

I have a H2O purification system what do you use for bypass line ILO of cannister?

Any hidden areas that need attention that aren't readily recognizable?

thanks all, evergreen 1

I do both as well.
Make sure you winterize the outdoor shower... As well as the city water inlet... And blowout the black tank flush, if equipped.

first step, drain and by-pass water heater. After blowing out with air, drain the low point drains. Water stays trapped since it has no place to go.

Pinked mine last weekend.

No air, I find it redundant.

It's air for me. I don't find it redundant.

Once you blow out the system and start pumping in antifreeze, just as soon as you see pink, it's all good. No chance of it being diluted by what was left in the lines somewhere. Use less antifreeze too.

Takes 1 1/2 gallons to do the lines, the last half goes down the traps.

That's less than 8 bucks worth.

air is free. No sense using antifreeze to push the water out, diluting it at the same time.

I'm in Monument and also blow out lines then add -50 Red stuff.

You don't have to blow out the lines but once you do you find that you don't use nearly as much red stuff.

This is an interesting point............I winterized mine for the first time last weekend, blew it out with air (from city water inlet) once drained down and WH drained and bypassed. I did the outside shower as well as blew out and pumped antifreeze into the black tank flush. Blew out from the city water connection...................Never thought to add antifreeze in there..................Is that something most of you guys do? I can clean my setup I had for the black tank flush and fill it with antifreeze if needed.

I remove the canister and dump the water then reinstall and let the antifreeze fill it and the rest of the system. I also blow the system with air before adding the antifreeze. Later RJD

For the two days a year it get's below freezing here in Louisiana, I usually just blow out the lines.

I have been burned twice in forgetting the outside showerhead, with not disconnecting it, and draining water from the head/line. I've had two crack from the water freezing in them. Just a reminder to not forget that, if you have one.

X whatever number I am
We reach -50 on occasion over the winter and blowing the lines does good but I don't think the air gets into the pump itself for one and I want it safe. Also there are dips in lines that air does not get out, joints , elbows and other connectors do crack.

I do a 100 kph suction drain. We are camping this weekend and I will do a pre winterization drain. I pull the low point drains, open all taps and by time I am home 2 hours later the entire system has no water in it. Then I add antifreeze. I buy this;

RV PLUMBING ANTIFREEZE - ECONOMICAL, 9.46L

The TSC store actually sells this for $8.33 which 2 Canadian gallons

I have never dumped antifreeze and gone out again but maybe this year. We have a large Provincial Park open all winter. Thinking between Christmas and New Years!

I take the water softner into the basement for the winter, just easier.
