Transmission Oil

New to RVing...we have a 2010 Sunseeker...looking to change tranny oil....easy on the 450 or is there a place like Jiffy Lube?

Jiffy Lube is fine for oil changes but see dealer for transmission service.

My first choice would be to do it my self. I would recommend the chassis dealer, truck shop that is willing to work on it for maintenance if you are not able.

I take my truck to a lube change place and the do the transmission. I have had it done a couple of times. The hook up a tank system to the trans lines and let the pump on the trans pull all the new fluid through. It's a complete change not just the torque conveter and pan...I don't mess with the pan and screen at all...

Do you need to change your transmission fluid, or do you want to do it for comfort?

Depending on your mileage, you may not need to do it yet. Read your Ford Scheduled Maintenance Guide. Our Sunseeker is on a 2010 E-450 chassis. The Service Maintenance Guide says on page 19, for trucks with the TorqShift transmission, to change the fluid and filter at 60,000 miles. It also says on page 47 that if you operate your E-450 at or near Gross Vehicle Weight, which certainly applies to most motorhomes, to change the rear axle fluid at 50,000 miles.

You have to read the Owner's Guide and the Scheduled Maintenance Guide carefully. The Owner's Guide is for all E-series products, and some of the information does not apply to the E-450.

I've been replacing my front & Rear diffs and transfer case every two years myself and just added the tranny drain/refill (annually) to that schedule. If you are able to do it yourself, its not that much money and can be done a few hours.

Be sure to maintain your tranny normal filter replacement and pan drop schedule. Clean fluids will ensure you get the most out of your vehicle.

I would not use the lube places for tranny service. You don't want that vacuum system used to change your fluid. A simple drain/filter change and refill is all you need.

The place I went to does not use a vacuum. The system is tapped into the trucks transmission lines and it uses the normal process of pumping fluid through the transmission. It takes around 15 quarts. A simple drain filter change may get 5 quarts...
