plan to start rolling this spring--my wife passed away so it will be just me and our Golden.
I'm wondering how to handle stopping at truck stop for lunch and what to do with the dog.
or where do people eat lunch while traveling--at rest stop?
I have a million ,ore questions

We also travel with a dog/dogs. Usually bring the fixings for lunch and hit rest areas or parking lots for eating. Take the pooch for a walk then eat. Same with getting gas. Fill then park and take for a walk. If doing dinner in a restaurant, will do a walk first then give them their food and go eat our selves. I do this when just me and the pooch! Works well.

Different people do things differently and you will get a million OPINIONS about what to do especially about/when leaving pets in a vehicle.

We often stop at rest areas and eat something we brought along and we often stop at restaurants and have left the pets in the vehicle. (running if necessary when too hot)

We've found there is more space for air circulation when leaving a pet in the camper long enough for us to eat. And the screened windows and ceiling vents can be opened. And fans on the vents can be run on battery power.

But if we have ANY question about whether our pet will be safe and comfortable, we'll just stop at a rest area and fix sandwiches in the camper.

Some truck stops restaurants have outdoor seating that will allow dogs.

Are you planning on having a trailer or Motorhome?
We simply put our Golden in the trailer, with the vents open, when we stopped for lunch. Trailer is better insulated than the truck.
Eat when stopping for fuel.
