Truck conversion vs class A

Good pics to see before driving a class A.
Truck got rear ended, ( at 60mph) and pushed into a trailer.
This driver walked away.

I've had this same conversation with my wife. At some point we'd like to buy a motorhome, once the kids are out of the house (12 more years to go! LOL).

I'd much rather have a class-C over a class-A. Real front end collision protection, and if you go with a truck instead of van conversion, much easier to work on.

Not all Class A's are created equal, nor are Travel Trailers.

I have seen the aftermath of more than a few RV incidents over the years. Saw an old Blue Bird to a roll over in the median, they walked away. Saw a lower end fiberglass Class A do something similar, they had to airlift them out and they cleaned up the mess with a front end loader. I have seen Airstreams barrel rolled and then towed off. Seen regular TT's shredded to pieces. Best bet is to not get in an accident. My personal preference happens to be the Class C or Super C.

I'd never be comfortable with one door. Glad we have 3. Stay safe everyone.

A class C MH a bit bigger than a standard class C. Still too small for us, mostly as the cab space is useless other than for driving. Tried that and the class A. Love the 5ers!

Until I am too feeble to go fishing I will stick to out 5er with my boat towed behind. I can't imagine having to uproot camp every time I wanted to launch my boat.

And, by the time Im too feeble to go fishing, I will probably be too feeble to drive either.

We had a 2007 Monaco class A, now have Ford F250 diesel with a pull behind toy hauling trailer with mt Electra Glide in it.
In the Monaco class A there were no driver or passenger airbags, and it had lousy brakes, driving along I try to give myself a lot of stopping room from the vehicle in front of me, them some women on a cell phone would cut right in front of me, causing me to have to slam on my brakes. We were always fearful of getting into a rear end collision with that class A.
Now with the F250 not only does it have better brakes, and airbags, it has side curtain airbags, and gets a lot better fuel mileage.

The old Blue Bird was originally built as a school bus. Much stronger than most class A motor homes. A school bus is designed to support more than 1 1/2 times its own weight on the roof, for that very reason...to protect occupants in the event of a rollover crash.

Class C motor home built on a heavy truck chassis. Something like a Dynamax Dynaquest XL or a Jayco Seneca, there are several others out there. These are just the two that came to mind.

After that, you get into the truck conversions.
A full 45' or so camper on an OTR full size semi.

I know and they are all but indestructible. I drove a Blue Bird school bus for a couple of years. Currently the only Class C manufacturer that puts any kind of roll over protection in the camper section, that I am aware of is Born Free. I know Winnebago used to tout the steel cage that they built around the driver's compartment of their class A's. Not sure if they still do or not.

Best bet is not to wreck...
