Truck tires

I have 20 inch wrangler tires that came on the truck. Should I worry about towing with them? I'd rather not have to spend more $$ on tires if these wil ne safe to tow. I plan on getting better ones later on

whats the load rating on those tirers and what are ya towing

Looks like Wranglers are LT tires so they should be correct for towing, the only other piece of data is the load on the truck when you are connected to make sure you have the correct load range tire.

Have you weighed your rig hooked up? If so what are the axle loads?

If you are towing your Shasta Revere 21FBS LE with your Dodge - I would say you are ok but when you are ready to replace them upgrade to a better tire - 10 ply or E rated tire.

Wrangler HP or they diffrent ?

I had the wrangler HP in 275/60-20 when I got my 04 and towed a 21 foot boat without issues.

as long as you keep the tire pressure constant and check them for wear and periodic stops to check them for heat

Yes they are the wrangler HP
I definitely plan on getting better tires later on but these still have quite a bit of miles left on them so if I can safely tow with them, I will.

As for the weigh in, not there yet, all we've done so far is get the trailer home which was a 30 minute drive. We'll be getting the dual cam sway control installed this week and i'll look for a scale to get the whole rig weight. I've read about the weighing and I admit it confuses me. I wish I had a local travel trailer friend to take me through it but I'll eventually get it right.

If I am not mistaken those are actually P rated tired (P = Passenger) - not LT
Check the side wall of the tire to verify this
I think it will read P275/60/20 if it is a LT (Light Truck) tire it will say LT275/60/20

for the size of your trailer - I would say you can safely tow with them - just word of caution - watch your speed when towing with them. you will get some flex out of the tire but as long as you dont over do it and check them periodically for heat and maintain the tire pressure you should be ok.

Labzy is towing a 2306 with her 2010 Ram with the same tires without issues

I have towed a 1979 21 foot Regal boat with the same tires on my 04 Dodge Ram - I have since upgraded to a E rated 10 ply tire but ran into the same issue of why upgrade a perfectly good tire.

Matt, I did check the web for the Wrangler before I posted the LT comment, but there may be a Wrangler tire I missed that is a P rated tire.

No Worries Lou - wasnt saying you were wrong - just going from what info I had from when they came on my 2004 Dodge Ram they were P rated tires at that time (they may not be now) - they could have changed them to LT tires - hence why I said to check the side of the tire

I checked the website too and didnt even see the Wrangler HP tires - go figure

Hmm, well I always felt that if you are going to "break a law" it is ALWAYS better to know you are doing it.

When the nice police officer pulls you over for speeding you can say, "Sorry officer I realize I was going 10 MPH over the limit, but I was keeping up with traffic". The other response is, "Hmm, maybe you can tell me what the speed limit is on this road. I have no idea..."

Guess which one might get you a warning?

My truck is paid off and I want to trade it in on a Mega Cab diesel 4x4 but have credit cards to pay off before I can even think of trading so I feel what you are saying .

Don't want to sound like an ad for them but I have put a few sets of Firestone Transforce AT tires on our trucks and they are LT load range E and work great for long service life (about one year or 100,000 km per truck) they are perfect towing, or loaded for bear. I think other companies may make similar ones but I havent tried anything that worked as well. One of our trucks (Tundra) came with P rated tires and I swapped them off after just 60,000 km, badly worn and I just didn't trust them anymore. I don't know if other people put their trucks and tires through what I do (driving heavy loads on them all day long every day) but if you do don't stick with the P's go LT and if you want to save a lot of money on long term tire replacement, spend a lot of short term money on tire replacement $0.02 won't get you a valve stem though.

We have about 30000 km on the tires now and we'll be close to 50 when it's time to tow. We will start with short trips at first to get to know how to tow and then we'llget new tires.
