Truck too tall

I do not know exactly where to post this one, so here goes. Last summer we traded in our 2009 Silverado for a new 2015 Silverado 2500 Diesel. We love the truck for towing our Cedar Creek 34SATS except for one thing. Even with running boards,nerf bars on it, my wife, who is only short on one end, cannot get into the truck without using a step stool. It is about six inches higher than the old truck and that is just too much. I have looked high and low for any solution to assist her in getting in and out of the truck that did not involve carrying a step stool in the back seat. Does anyone have a suggestion? The nerf bars were installed at the Chevy dealership and they were not cheap.

Now that's funny!

Anything low enough for her to step on would probably affect your ground clearance to the point you would damage it.

You could look into retracting steps that would be lower. I googled it and got a few hits but not sure they'd work with your nerd bars.

I know there are kits one can get to lower the height. I doubt a dealership would be able to help you. I would suggest you visit a custom auto body shop and tell then you would like to lower the height of the truck. It should be a simple fix. Just shorter suspension parts and stuff. You could also look into some shorter sidewall tires as well to lower the height. I think there are plenty of options for you. They will know all the tricks.

I would see if a specialty shop could lengthen the bars on the steps. I know I was disappointed by how high my running boards sit. That said, I'm 5'2" and I just use the steering wheel to help me in and out. My 7yr old scrambles and out ok too. A lower grab handle bar help your DW.

I have thought of retractable steps but they only cover the front doors and the nerf bars have to go. Nerf bars could be a costly mistake. ( $650)

Just weld on a rv folding step. You could even get an electric on for her. I have seen it done someplace before.

Ouch!! Do it yourself after market bar running boards are half that. I hate it when a dealer (stealer) does that to someone!

Lowering the truck is not that difficult, shorter springs or altered in the front and longer spring shackles in the back are not that costly.

Look into a lower kit from Rough Country for Chevy trucks lowers 2" in front and 4" in rear cost is 199.95 . Comes with everything you need.

Just a thought, in my area there are specialty shops that deal with handicap issues, such as vehicle access. It may be worth your while for those that are vertical challenged.

Why not just have a stirrup step added to your passenger side bars? It seems like that would be the least inexpensive. If you didn't want them bolted on the back side of your current bars you could always have a machine shop add a bracket with the appropriate drop and length in order to mount to the frame.

X2 on the AMP Steps.

I have a set on my lifted pickup and love them. They are spendy, but in my opinion, they are well worth it.

If you don't want to spend that much, I would lower the truck. It's just a torsion bar adjustment in the front, and a set of drop shackles for the rear.

Well I did it. The truck is not toooo tall any more. I found a dealer that sells the AMP Powerstep and had them installed on my Silverado. Now my DW and I are both happy. The Power Steps are very solid and they look nice too, and DW can get in and out with no problem.

We have the same issue. Even after we installed steps, my wife injured her knee climbing into and out of the truck.

So every time we get in, I go to her side and put down a Rubbermaid step. She then climbs in. I put in in the back and get in. Reverse the process to get out. For me, it's a small price to pay for her comfort.

I really don't notice the height problem is lower than the ford 350 was i know have the 3500 duramax , grandkids get in and out with ease and they are 6 , Some of the problems i have seen with aftermarket they are not built as strong as what GM put on mine
